1st Day of NOLA Visit Blog - Saturday, 11/7/09The hubby (TheBlueMeanie) & I checked into our hotel on Camp St. by 4:30 (CST). We freshened up after our 9-hour drive & then we met Izzy, Silver, MM17 & Shigyrl in the hotel lobby. We walked together to Pat O'Brien's Courtyard on Bourbon Street to meet up w/ the rest of our gang for dinner. While we waited outside, we met up w/ esb, egp, & naughyaussie. We started taking pictures & the 3 husbands (TheBlueMeanie, SilverSkywise and naughtyaussie) started bonding immediately. We were seated & began ordering drinks & checking out the menu. I had the Skylab (their strongest drink). Shortly afterwards, Sheena & LanYap arrived & our table was complete! More hugs were given & pics were taken. LanYap then bestowed different Mardi Gras beads to each of us. I received Rubber Duckies that squeak when you squeeze them. TheBlueMeanie received beads of his favorite NFL team--the NY Giants. IOur bill totalled over $303 dollars & then it took Shigyrl & I some time to figure out who owed what $ since Pat O'Brien's wouldn't do separate checks. Afterwards, we walked through the courtyard & some of us went to use the restroom upstairs. We recognized the spiral staircase as the one used in "Interview with the Vampire". You see those stairs when Louis (Brad Pitt) is running down them w/ Claudia while their home is on fire. A few of us were separated, but we found each other outside Pat O'Brien's. We then walked down Bourbon St. to take more pics & then after a long day of driving, the Meanie & I decided to call it a night. Izzy & Silver also decided to head to their hotel. The rest of the gang went to listen to some jazz at one of the clubs. That's how our trip to NOLA began. I'll post the memories from Day 2 tomorrow. =^..^= Do you find this valuable? |

2nd Day of NOLA Visit Blog - Sunday, 11/8/09Our Sunday started out by meeting Shi & MM17 to have breakfast over at Mother's Restaurant. We then met up with Izzy & esb to ride the St. Charles Ave streetcar to the Scandinavian Fest in the Garden District. We met up with egp & the Naughty Aussie at the Fest as well. The bulk of the Fest was held on 11/6 and 11/7, but we did attend brunch, delighted in some desserts & checked out some of their crafts. Izzy, MM17 & I were brave enough to try the Sill/Herring since we were told to try it. Sill is definitely not my favorite Swedish dish. Izzy liked it, but MM17 & I didn't. Oh well, at least we tried it! After the Scandinavian Fest, we walked a few blocks & thanks to Izzy (she went to the visitor's center earlier & had Garden District info at the ready), we began our walking tour of the Garden District. We saw Anne Rice's former home & various other lovely homes/mansions. We wanted to go to the Lafayette Cemetery #1, but it was closed. We did look through the gates & got a glimpse of many of the tombs/vaults. We went to Cafe Du Monde to meet up with Sheena, LanYap, Bodi & ElizabethofSC. After enjoying some Beignets, Cafe Au Lait & Hot Chocolate we walked some more around the French Quarter. We went to Mother's Restaurant to pick up dinner to go & ended up over at LanYap's home around 7 PM to eat dinner, enjoy Izzy's cheesecake, watch Epi 4 of Generation Kill & all of Eric Northman's Season 1 highlights. While we were there, BMB & her mom arrived safely & the craziness really ensued. We had a wonderful time and LanYap was the Hostess with the Mostest! The Meanie & I called it a night after 11 PM & ended up back at our hotel for another deep sleep in the Big Easy. Day 3 memories will be posted tomorrow. =^..^= Do you find this valuable? |

Nov 6 – Day 1SS and I were able to use our WDW timeshare to trade into a one-bedroom condo 1 block off the French Quarter in NOLA. We left Bellefonte at 6am to drive to Baltimore because our flight from BWI was at 12:30pm & the drive was 3 ½ hrs. We wanted to get there early in order to change our seats because we weren’t seated together. It didn’t work coz the flight was overbooked, but at least it was on time. After 12 hrs of travel, we arrived in NOLA just after 6pm and got a cab to our condo. We were staying at the Courtyards Guesthouse on Royal St, just off the FQ. It is a lovely Creole townhouse that has been converted into a timeshare property. Courtyards Guesthouse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBC_jcOHAHA Our host, George, was very knowledgeable about New Orleans and gave us a lot of good info about where to go and what to do. Everyone else was getting in on Saturday so we took it easy and went to bed early after the long day of traveling. We went to the all-night market, Verte Marti, to get to-go food for dinner and brought it back to the condo to eat. Do you find this valuable? |

Nov 7 – Day 2Since everyone was due to arrive in NOLA later in the afternoon, we slept in and then explored the FQ, going to the grocery store on Royal St, and reacquainting ourselves with NOLA. It had been 10 yrs since we had been to NOLA and I had forgotten how beautiful it was. It truly is a lovely city. I love the architecture of the FQ and the Garden District, and the warm, earthy feel of the place. I love the music that is everywhere, and the street performers, and the life that teems from the very cobblestones on the streets. NOLA is alive in a way no other city is. Our townhome was beautiful, it’s location perfect, and I felt comfortable and at ease walking the streets in the FQ. I baked two cheesecakes in prep for Sunday night’s get-together at LanYap’s. I left them cooling when we got the call from TES and BlueMeanie that they had arrived. We walked across the FQ to their hotel and met them, MM17 & Shigirl in the lobby. We bonded in the lobby, then we all headed to Pat O’Brien’s for dinner with EGP, ESB, NaughtyAussie, LanYap and Sheena. Much drinking and good food and good times ensued. :D As we were leaving, a wedding party came dancing into Pat O’s, and we got to see the bride and groom come dancing in with their feather-trimmed umbrellas. There were about 200 wedding guests all dressed in their finery. Needless to say, they packed the place and getting out was an adventure. We got separated and it took a bit for all of us to find each other, but we managed. We even passed the famous staircase where Brad Pitt grabbed Kirsten Dunst and ran her upstairs to the potty in Interview With a Vampire. :D Nah… they were supposed to be running away from Lestat, but those stairs just lead to the Ladies’ Room. Isn’t Hollywood awesome? *hee* After we left Pat O’s, SS & I were tired, so we headed back to the condo for some rest and recuperation for the next day. :D Will post Days 3 & 4 later. 3rd Day of NOLA Visit Blog - Monday, 11/9/09The Meanie and I began our day by making waffles inside the La Quinta Inn & Suite's cafe. After breakfast, we met up with Izzy, Silver, Shi and MM17 and walked over to the French Market. After the French Market visit, we met up with more of the Wiki Wakkers to begin our walking tour of the French Quarter. We took pictures and walked by many of the haunted mansions, most notably the LaLaurie Mansion on Royal Street (formerly owned by Nicolas Cage), which creeped the hell out of both the Meanie and I. Izzy told us about its history and I just moved onto the next location...quickly. What was it Lafayette mentioned in Season 1? "Bad juju"...yup, you felt it for sure. After our tour of the French Quarter, we headed over to Cafe Beignet to meet up with EB_, SookieVsBella and SVB's mom to have our Sookieverse Book 9 discussion. It was great meeting the 3 of them and we talked about Book 9 and all things ERIC NORTHMAN! Cafe Beignet closed early so we all moved across the street to the DESIRE Oyster Bar to continue the discussion and snack on more desserts. Several of us returned to our hotels to freshen up and then we met up over at Harrah's Casino. The Meanie and I played the slot machines....I didn't make any profit, but the Meanie was ahead $22 so he cashed the $ in and left it at that. After eating at Fuddrucker's, several of us made our way over to the St. Louis Cathedral to begin the long-awaited Vampire Tour. Due to the weather, some peeps decided not to go on the tour and instead wait until Meads arrived on Wednesday to do so. Those of us who went on the tour had a wonderful experience and we're very happy "Loving True Blood in Dallas" recommended Jonathan to us as our guide. The Meanie and I headed back to our hotel (creepy at night) and tried to get a good night's sleep. =^..^= Do you find this valuable? |
