yeah I agree but we won't know about him until later, but it's weird they won't have him with Sophie ann when she makes her appearance at the end of the season.

"Yep, rantings of a book snob is a good title. I agree that normally books are better than their film or TV versions, but True Blood is a remarkable exception to that rule. Charlaine's universe is great, she is very creative, but, let's face it, she is not that good a writer. Ball makes a MUCH better job with her ideas than she did herself.
It is not that I don't like the books, I just think TB is way better than them."
Not a good writer?! Really?!
I doubt Alan Ball would agree with you on that. After all, he enjoyed the books enough to want to adapt them for the show, right?
Her books are fun to read! Great ecapist novels don't have to be full of flowery speech. Not just the Sookie novels, but her other mystery series as well, are full of interesting characters, stories, and lots of charm... Please, give them a try, before you summarily dismiss them as sub-par literature. Thanks for listening!

"I have to agree with you on Eric. He is not a villain. He's sexy, and he has a quirky sense of humor. The getting highlights was a little over the top. Sookie and Eric have a much more interesting relationship in the books. He always comes through for Sookie (the paved driveway, the new coat, the $50,000, blood for strength, etc.) without making her feel like a dependent person. Sookie said,"That's what I like about Eric, he "gets" me. I'd really like to see an episode on Eric with memory loss at Sookies house.

Bill has not always been comletely honest with Sookie. I became less and less attracted to the Bill's character until the 9th book."
The Eric memory loss ... I am going to be drooling if they follow the plot for book 4. They better or i'll ... i'll ... i'll ... write a very opinionated letter! LOL

"I have also read all 9 books and I totally agree about the Eric thing! I think they are making him into such a villain and in my book he isnt. I did like that he was highlighting his hair however cuz that brought some of Eric's silliness at least but I was so angry that he had the people locked up.

I dont mind Maryann Because in the book her and Sam do eventually get together so if they want to twist it to make it like they were together before thats fine.

I'm hoping more of Erics personality comes out. Especially in Dallas when he takes a bullet for her.(I hope they dont change that like they did with the longshadow staking)"
A little belated but I totally agree with you on the bullet and Lonshadow issue. All my I dislike Bill go Team Eric ammo is going out the window. All my friends are all "I don't think Bill is such a bad guy you crazy!" I guess we will just have to bide our time and see. At least in episode 2 he spared Jason for Sookie's sake and went as far as to ask to borrow Sookie even though he didn't have to.

"Just a though: We never saw Eric 'at work' in the books, because Sook never witnessed that side of him. (the drawback of first person novels)
But Eric is a Sheriff, his job - among other things - is to control the vamps in his area and also make sure they are safe. As he said, vampire attacks are on the rise. His methods may be barbaric, but he is a vampire. Bill tore apart and fed on the drainers in season one, and ripped the throat out of Uncle Bartlett. (and good for him!) It's just part of what they are. ("we don't have human values") The dungeon was horrifying I think, in part, because Lafayette is such an incredibly cool and sympathetic character, and we hated to see him like that. It's easy to forget that he is(was) a V dealer, and as such, he is considered an enemy to vampires. Eric answers to higher powers, he can't be having vamps in his Area drained and killed (like what happened to Bill and whatshisname Jason and his girl abducted and staked)
I personally like seeing the scary side of the vamps.
But I am confident we'll see more of the prancing peacock that is the Eric we know and love as the season continues.
Hopefully we'll get to see Bill do his vampire thing, too, at some point!

"
You def got your wish is seeing Bill do his "vampire thing in Episode 2." He got to break down a door and use his glamor.

"What's an Easter Egg? .....Is it like last season when the band was playing at Arlene's party and they sang "Seventeen and in between......" at the same time as Bill was turning seventeen year-old Jessica into a vampire?"
An easter egg is kind of like a nod. Someone who reads the books knows what it means but to someone who only watches the show they don't notice. My example was Jason wearing a baseball cap with a panther on it. If you read the books you know that Jason gets turned into a Were-panther. If you didnt read the books you probably didn't give his wardrobe a second glance.

"You make me want to read the books!"
You should most def read the books! They are a lot of fun. Plus there are only 9 my goodness that should take you like a week right? lol Maybe when the 2nd Season is over you could pick a couple up to help ease the time between seasons. Just a suggestion!

"Thank you Dallas, you've said it for me. Its a lot more interesting NOT knowing what's going to happen. Count yourselves lucky True Blood isn't on network tv with some craptastic creator who would present something santised, humourless, cliche and non-controversial. Alan Ball is the best person for the job and i'm completely confident he will continue to do an awesome job with the source material he has. "
You do have a point here. It could have been WAY worse if someone like Alan Ball hadn't taken on the project. I'm glad Charlaine didn't give the project to just anyone. I do like that I don't know where things are going in some aspects of the series. Just don't mess with my Sookie/Eric plot line and i'm cool lol

" I guess Sookie getting mauled is prob going to be with Mary-Ann not wanting Tara to move out instead of Eric's tribute stuff in the book. Yet another Eric part bites the dust.

"
Agreed - unfortunately. But the goblin doctor has been cast, so we can only hope Eric will still be a big part of her healing.

I have to agree that AB may be trying to limit the number of character lines he has going. I have watched the new ep a couple of times now. I was watching the preview for the coming ep. Does anyone else think that Amanda will play a bigger role? She was the girl at the FOTS who passed out the rings and also sang the song. If you go by LDID, Luna was a shifter who helped rescue Sookie. So, is this Amanda, the were that we meet later in the books? Will she play Luna's part? I would be a great way to introduce the Weres. Is Jason there to help save his sister too?

I would like to think that Laf will be there to either help protect Sookie (like Bubba) or maybe fill in at Merlotte's later.

I've seen other threads where people try to guess what MA is. She is the maenad, right!?! In the book, the maenad has a pig. MA was seen with a pig, twice. She also feeds off of peoples drunken/sexual states...like the Maenad again. I really think the preview for the party at MA's, will be the equivalant to the orgy in the books.

I love the books and the series nearly as much. It's fun trying to piece everything together. I just wish I had a better handle on Jessica's future role. This season is just getting good. EP3 is going to start ramping things up.
I sooooooooo hope they keep this show going...I have to see all the Sookie and Eric parts. Not to mention a few steamy scenes with Quinn......Vin Diesel maybe?

Ooooooo I LOVE THIS!!!

"stan is in the show, he is played by Ed quinn who is frickin hot, not geeky like he is protrayed in the show.i

Erics tracksuit was only the shirt his pants were a pair of dockers or dickies, but did anyone else know when he bent over he is wearing black underwear heh heh.

Sookie right now I think is faker than fake, they need to amp her up a bit."
Stan portrayed himself a geek in the books, but if I recall, Sookie did find him somewhat attractive. He was sort of hiding his looks behind the geeky glasses and pocket protector. I seriously doubt TV Stan will be portrayed that way at all. And Ed IS pretty hot! I do wish Chow was hotter. I sort of imagine him as the dude from "Mortal Kombat", with no mullet, though :)

Or how how about Jin from "House of Flying Daggers"?

I don't remember if Sookie thought Stan was attractive or not, but I pictured Stan as someone like Chester From Linkin Park though. LOL!

I AGREE 100% with your idea for the introduction of the Were's (and just about everything you just stated). I really really hope that AB brings the Weres & more of the Shifters into the series. imo, those characters are of the most compelling in the books & they just add something even more dynamic to the series. I can't wait to see Alcide, Calvin & ofcourse- the Mighty Quinn, he's easily one of the coolest characters in the series (one of my favs)

I honestly think that if you don't bring in the other supes then there really isn't no point in making any more of the show after this season because from this point on is basically surrounded by nothing but the vamps, were's, and all of the above.

Absolutely, if they are indeed going off of the book series to a degree- then they are going to run out of basis for a story w/out bringing them in eventually. and again, they played a major part in keeping the series so intriguing & compelling.

exactly, and they keep saying that they are at least going off of the skeleton or the backbone of the story which is Eric/Sookie/Bill/Alcide/Quinn fiasco, and bringing in all the supes.

I just have to say I love this thread. I've tried a couple others, but can't stand to follow their train of thought.
Most hate Sookie and Eric and some don't like the books at all.
I don't think I could follow the show as well, if I hadn't read the books. I have to say that I did watch the first season before reading the books and it really helped to visualize the characters. That made reading the books so easy. I don't mind that the series isn't 100% by the books (since it's from Sookies view point), but I hope AB keeps the main scenes and some of the other good characters. There is definitely no way he can do the show and not have the weres, witches, and Quinn.

Who would you like to play Quinn?
Does anyone know who Barry is going to be played by?
I am totally obsessed. :O)

Oh my. I'm lost in Bon Temps, big time. Since the semester has ended and my students are gone, decided to re-read the books. Big mistake. I've done nothing but read for the last two days. Crazyland. Watched the sun come up, still reading through the night. Am now just finishing "Doornail," and I'm looking over my shoulder right and left. Figuring Eric is going to come flying by my window any minute now. The dang TB theme song is stuck in my head. By tomorrow I'll be in a padded room!

Yes, Harris' writing is simplistic, and a lot of pages are filled with what Sookie is wearing or cleaning, but you can't beat the plots and characters, and they are just a hoot. In this second reading, I'm seeing more and more the flair Eric has, his sense of humor and sparkle... and then again, the lack of any humor in Bill. And for someone as spicey as Sookie in the books, I should think the choice would be clear cut, even given Eric's drawbacks. I believe the fact that Bill was her "first" is such a huge stumbling block for her, given her Southern roots. Once Ball gets into that trio, it is hopefully going to be a blast, and for those who haven't read the books, it will be a real eye-opener. The Bill/Eric followers may find themselves on the fence more than once. Can't wait. :)
