I want to know more about the number 8. I've been told I'm a double victim of this number and I've decided to take whatever energy it has and make it work for me. I was born 09/08/1971 and my world is basically 8's which also throws in the infinity symbol. I know I can take this power and stop some of the travesties that always seem to find me. Thanks for your time.

Who used the term "double victim?" That's awfully negative and there's no reason for it to be. 8 is the number of manifestation, of sowing what you've reaped. It's about manifesting, building hard work into lasting success, and getting what you have earned. Yes, you do have to work hard for what you have, and you may not consider yourself a "lucky" person, but if you take the attitude that you can have anything you earn, I don't see why this isn't a completely positive number for you.

What do you mean by 'travesties?" You won't find any success in get rich quick schemes and you won't be handed anything you haven't earned, but getting what you HAVE earned is more than a lot of people ever get. What is the external source of your problems?

"I don't trust psychics that claim they can't read somebody. It's more like they didn't want to for some reason. There are reasons why you might not want to read for a particular person, but since I wasn't there I don't want to speculate.

You've obviously got a positive energy about you, and you've found a job that makes th most of it - you are very lucky in that.

It's very rare for psychic ability to flow through the male line, but it does happen. You can always develop your gifts if you want, but it sounds as if you are using them already. Do you feel the need to work with them more specifically?"
Unfortunately I am no longer working for child support due to my husband finding a new job in Lakemary,FL. We moved from Ft. Lauderdale, FL where I was surrounded by such an open and diverse population which included those I worked with to an area with very conservative people with no diversity. They are very unhappy here and closed off. I get a lot of negative unhappy energy from most I come in contact with and thy tend to be put off by my smile and positive enery. I have been able to find a handful of people I could make good friends with but it's nothing like back home. I am also far away from my psychic friend which I used to visit on most Fridays where we used to just unwind.

Right now I feel like I'm stuck and I am missing my job. I am in no way ungrateful to have the opportunity to be home with my kids and appreciate the sacrifice my husband makes for us. I also enjoy the area which provides me a lot of mother nature to enjoy but I feel like I'm missing something.

I have thought about looking into doing something more specific with it but since my children are still small time is very limited. I am thinking of going to college in a couple of years when my youngest starts kindergarden. I am very interested in studying psycology so I can kind of contunue what I was doing at child support but at a different level.

I do know that I'm being guided in that direction but the whole picture hasn't come thru yet.

Moraine, do you have any suggestions?

"A good question what makes a vampier alive but NOT alive.?"
I'm afraid all we have to work with are theories. I haven't met anyone I could confirm was al vampire, so I haven't had any up close study. I'll keep looking, though...

Bill Compton claims it's "magic" but that's an unsatisfying response and I think Bill is just speculating. If you pay attention, he answers Sookie's questions even when he doesn't seem to know the answers. That's a guy thing. I'll bet he won't pull over and ask for directions, either.

In the books, CH describes it as a virus that effects certain permanent changes. It's not a contagion because transmission requires nearly complete draining and having vampire blood put in its place - unless the ailment is contained in the blood itself and a lot of it is necessary to effect the changes in the rest of the body. Once infected, they can't feed on anything but blood, they no longer excrete toxins through skin, breath, sweat or waste, normal aging ceases, they can't die. The curious thing is that their blood doesn't pool and it's red which indicates the presence of oxygen but their blood supposedly no longer circulates and they have no heartbeat. That's not logical, but i'm not the writer. I'd give them a heart beat.

Initially, vampires and werewolves and similar creatures were considered the Undead, rather than just dead. Undead means that they don't have a normal, limited life span, but will only die through specific means - traditionally, only silver will kill a werewolf, silver will kill any of the undead, but vamps are also vulnerable to beheading, staking and exposure to sun. In some myths, they can drown, in others they can't even enter or cross water. CH's vamps don't sweat but they like to bathe. I find that sensual and endearing, but not logical, either.

In the end, I have to say what Bill won't - I don't know.

"I've been enough places and seen enough things to know that there's some truth in most myths. I've never encountered a being that I could confirm had an extended life span and subsisted solely on blood, but I'm convinced it's not outside the realm of possibility. Skin walkers and shapeshifters are real, and a vampire is not so far removed from those that it would take a great leap to believe in them. I do think it would be more likely to find one in the lower Americas than Europe, though. Too many people in Europe for a being like that to function. All kinds of creatures have been seen and reported - ever hear about the nude woman with black wings who was seen flying over a battle field in Vietnam? Beings like that have been reported all over the world. There's definitely more going on in the natural world than anyone wants to believe.

I think Eric is a fascinating character, and not just because Alex is so yummy. There's a rich history for that character that a good writer could spend an entire career exploring. A thousand years is a long, long time. I'm not sure that a human mind, even one altered in some way, could retain its sanity after all that time, but it's an interesting question. Star Trek did a story once about a guy who had been daVinci and Mozart and a whole bunch of famous people over hundreds of years. I'd love to see some exploration of Eric's adventures. "
I agree with you...I missed that story on Star Trek!!! I must go for now....My daughter is in the hospital....be back later. Morgaine can you give me a site I can go to to learn more?

Well, it sounds as if you aren't happy where you are. Are the things you gained by moving there more important than what you gave up? If you've got small kids, that may be the case, so you have to figure out if it's worth it. There may be no going back though, so how about sending out a mental invitation for the Universe to help you find new friends?

The plan about going to school when the kids get a little older is a good one - you'll be ready to be out in the world then. In the mean time, enjoy your kids while they're small. That's a precious gift you have there, so make the most of it.

"I don't know how courageous I am. I just can't be anything except who I am. I can try to act "normal" for a short period of time, but sooner or later, people figure out that there is something "different" about me. If I'm up front with my beliefs, people are less likely to fear me. Not addressing it gives them too much space to fall back on negative stereotypes. "
You are much braver than I have been, it has taken me till middle age to accept what I am and finally I'm just starting to do some serious study. As a child I remember having out of body experiences, my favorite stories growing up were myths and legends and I have always identified with a pagan belief system. I recently got lost and passed a metaphysical shop, I went in and have become a regular. I think it is time to finally start to learn what I'm doing.

Everything in perfect time. I was driven to learn about the spirit world from childhood and I went on a sort of religious binge in college trying to find something that felt true to me. When I found Wicce, I was home. that was the late 70s, early 80s. so it was a time when there was plenty of stuff available and growing. but it was mostly new sources that hadn't been around long. Now there is so much available that it's a challenge to sort the good from the bad.

It's never too late to start- we each do things when we are ready. I find that being middle aged can be very liberating - there's no one I need to impress, I've got a certain security in who I am and enough varied experiences to know what works and what doesn't. It's an ideal time to go inward and see what's there that you haven't discovered yet. You didn't get lost the day you discovered the metaphysical shop - you got found.

Black used to be cool so Witches and artists and musicians wore it all the time, Now that the working people have turned it into an effing uniform, you can't tell who's who by their clothes. Your best indicator of whether someone is a Witch these days is to look at her jewelry. If you see pentacles, Egyptian or Celtic designs, that can be an indicator.

I wear black most of the time when I'm on the East Coast because it's harder to tap into Nature in a city. Black absorbs and holds energy so it helps keep my energy up. I can't wear black when I'm in New Mexico because there it absorbs too much energy and I get overloaded - everything out there is so ALIVE it vibrates, and that can be hard to take when you're used to trying to wring a little energy out of an urban setting. Luckily, when I was there I was staying with a medicine man who knew exactly what was going on because it was wiping me out. Once I started wearing bright colors, my energy leveled out and I felt great. When you are sensitive to energy, little things can make a big difference. Witches are usually hyper sensitive and feel things more intensely than most people. That's why we can interact with energies of which most people are unaware. We see, hear, smell, feel, things that others can't.

Do you I am a witch? And why am I interested in gemstones lately? My favorite, a tumbled polished garnet. It's not even my birthstone. Why am I attracted to it?

Also my family's property is filled with white quartz with gold lines. Someone mentioned the properties of stones. Do you think they have any affect on people? Why are so many tourist interested in picking up these quartz stones found along our beach?

Only you know the answer to that. If you were, you would know it without a doubt. I don't know why you're getting into crystals, but you might as well read some books on their use and see what you learn. Garnets are strong - they can make a person bitchy sometimes when they wear them.

White quartz with gold lines is a nice amplifier - it will increase whatever is going on around them. They can be charged with healing energy by someone who knows how and be used in massages and visualizations. People are attracted to them because they feel a little boost from handling them.

Morgaine,

Thanks for your response. Now I know what attracts the tourist to the stones, on the beach. My family always assumed the streak was fools gold in the quartz. We would laugh when they pick up the stones. We assume they thought they discovered gold. Never thought it was the "quartz" that attracted them. Best thing about the quartz is sometimes it looks like you're swimming in the sea, with golden flecks. It's pretty.

Found a website about the healing properties of gemstones. I wanted to share the web site address with you all.

http://www.semiprecious.com/healing_Properties.html

I think I should keep the garnet on. The healing powers outweighs being a bitch. Besides, I think what this world needs is more b's and less pole swinging skanks. :)

"Hi Morgaine,

I'm curious to know if most Witches celebrate Winter Solstice, and if so, what's involved in that. Thanks!"
Yes, most Wtiches do celebrate the Winter Solstice which is one of the Cross Quarters : Winter Solstice is called Yuletide Dec 21-22; The Vernal Equinox March 21-22; the Summer Solstice is called Litha June 21-22; and the Autumnal Equinox is September 21-22. The date varies slightly from year to year because our calender is not accurate to solar events.

In addition, there are 4 HIgh Holy Days or Sabbats : Samhain, Oct. 31; Imbolc or Candlemas, Feb 2; Beltane, May 1 and Lammas or Lughnasad, August 1. These dates are consistent from year to year, though any Sabbat may be marked 3 days before, the day or, or 3 days after, as can the Esbats, or Full Moon rituals.

Some Celtic groups only celebrate Samhain and Beltane, known respectively as Halloween and May Day. The four Cross Quarters are marked in some way by almost every known culture everywhere and every time.

Most of the symbols we see at Christmas are Yuletide symbols: Red and Green are the colors of Mistletoe, which is considered a sacred plant, as are the evergreen tree and the holly. One surviving Pagan carol is Deck the Halls, which is strictily about Yultetide - it never mentions Christmas. Dec. 25 was actually the birth of MIthras, a god of ancient Persia, who was associated with gifts left under a tree. The only Christian elements of what we know as Christmas are the names of the characters in the Nativity - Jesus/Iesus/Yeheshua, Mary/Miriam, Joseph/Yusef. Though Paganism was declared illegal in the 4th Century C.E. people refused ot abandon the Old Ways, which were gradually adopted and redefined by the Church. The concepts of a virgin birth, the birth of a divine child and the concept of a Once and Future King who is born, dies and is reborn are Pagan in origin.

Over the years, people gradually forgot the original reasons they did these things. In some cases, they learned new reasons and in some they didn't bother. Next Ash Wednesday, find Catholics with smudges on their heads and ask them what the ashes symbolize. I haven't found one yet that could tell me why they wear the ashes, but they do it any way. Does it still count if you have no idea what you are doing or why you're doing it?

Catholics are generally discouraged from asking questions or even studying the bible. Your friend might not want to hear anything she perceives as negative toward Catholicism, and could become very defensive if you tell her something that goes against her training, even if it's something you can prove to be true. Most adults in our culture stay stuck in concrete thinking their whole lives and never learn to process abstract concepts so they feel physically threatened if you question their belief system. Approach the subject with caution - you don't want to lose a friend over this. Just give her some space. "
Yeah that's what I have been doing. I really haven't brought it up and I know its a tough subject to discuss with her, but its getting easier. Thank you for the explination and the the history. It will get better, she just lost and she needs to center herself again. She'll find her way back.

This is my first time posting so if I do it wrong and it is attached to someone elses post, I apologize. First of all I would like to thank Morgaine for taking the time to so patiently and kindly answer everyone's emails. I have been impressed by how thoughtfully you give of your time, and also you charity work sounds fantastic.

I'm working on a novel and it starts on our world but travels to Faery. I have had a difficult time finding any books that give a real idea of what that world might be like. I've been doing alot of research and making the rest up as I go, I don't want to screw up on celtic mythology and have people complain later. I'm basing it loosely on Seelie (summer) vs Unseelie (winter). Just wondered if you had any great books you could refer me too.

Thank you for taking the time to write down the pagan holiday schedule as well as I had part of that down but not all so I appreciate it.
