Favorite Book in the series?
Nov 4 2008, 12:16 PM EST
In reading through the spoiler threads, it seems as though many people have their own favorite book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries that they'd like to discuss so I thought I'd start a thread. What is your favorite book in the series, why and what portions of that book do you want to see in the series? For me, it's book 3 Club Dead -- I couldn't get to the next page quickly enough but I wanted to savor each new twist, turn and development. I thought this was a great book for Sookie because she rose to the occassion as needed and she didn't let her pride get in the way of doing the right thing. I got a huge kick out of Russell and the sexual tension between Alcide, Eric and Sookie was palpable. Personally, I'd love to see this entire book used in the series, because I think everything in it is great story telling. 9 out of 11 found this valuable. Do you?

Ooh what a smart thread yet a hard one for me... My favorite book(s) are: Club Dead, Dead to the World and Altogether Dead.Totally agree with you montbriac on Club Dead. Had some terrific scenes and all the characters were awesome! Since I totally love the flavor that Eric brings, that leads me to Dead to the World. Loved it completely! And the last one had much going on and gave us some very interesting fantasy's to think of where the characters are headed and what role they will play. Unfortunately I very nearly wish all the portions would be in the HBO series, but I know that's not going to happen nor has it. What I do wish for is Eric and Pam to be as they are depicted in the books. They lend such sexiness, humor and fierceness that keeps Sookie on her toes! Still love the show! 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

I'd have to say that Book 4 is my favorite. Dead to the World. The connection that Eric and Sookie come by is fantastic. The plot all around is fun and always keeps you interested.

"I loved it too... I think the people that haven't read the books don't really understand Eric. And maybe AB won't write Eric the way CH sees his character, although I hope he does. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Fave books are Club Dead/Book #3 and Dead to the World/Book #4. Both of those are chock full of Sookie/Eric moments (comfort, laughter, pain, naughtiness, and a "gracious plenty" of ectasy). DELECTABLE!!!=^..^= 6 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

My favorite is #2 - Living Dead in Dallas. I love how Bill & Sookie's relationship is starting to mature in this book (as much as it can for her first relationship) and how in love they are with each other. Despite what happens in #3 & #4, I still am a Bill fan. I think he did what he thought was "right" to protect Sookie (in #3) and he did what he was told (#4) and got more than he bargained for (true love). I think he truly loves her... I'm a hopeless romantic, I guess. My close second is #4 - for the same reasons as most of you - Eric & Sookie are HOT together and for each other. IMO, he's alot of fun and someone she should definitely "experience" before settling down but I do not think he's the "ONE" for her. 5 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

If I really had to pick in order Book 4 - Dead to the world is number one. I like 3 club dead because it leads up the fabulous book 4, but I have to say that book 8 pleases me as well because by than Eric remembers everything that happend in book 4, gives me hopes that they will HOPEFULLY end up together again.

Ooh great thread! This is really a hard one for me because I am re-reading the series again with a friend and we have a bit of an intense book club going on about them and I didn't realized how much I missed the 1st and even 2nd time around (yes -I swear I have a life, I just love the books)!I think # 2, Living Dead In Dallas is my 1st favorite b'c CH is just having a ball with Eric. That's where you see the affection & bond start to develop between Eric & Sookie, I really LOVE their moments of banter. There's so much chemistry! And of course, his sense of humor just SHINES in this book. I LMAO so much while reading this. Then book #3, Club Dead is my other favorite. Whatta' book!! It is so meaty. There is a ton going on and Eric steps up BIG time as Sookie's wing-man. You see them really start to work together as a team. You just gotta love that. Also, this is the book where I really saw the parallels with Pride & Prejudice (CH's fav. book and says she references a lot in the series). Book 4, DTTW, I adore too, the proposal just knocks my socks off and the intimacy they share is amazingly tender. So, so different than any of her moments with Bill.... So the #1 spot is a toss up between LDID and CD...(with DTTW getting the MVP). 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

I had a lot of fun with book 7, heck I had fun with all of them. I just think that in books 7 and 8, Sookie is developing very real and very strong feelings for Eric regardless of the blood tie, I think the blood tie confuses her about what she actually feels and what is the bond, but I hope this is explored more in book 9. There wasn't a book I didn't like -- I just got more out of some than others. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Book 7 I do love esp. b'c of the blood bond. But I'm with ya - I had fun with all of them. FYI - I asked CH on her forum a bunch of questions but one specifically was if we'll finally get "the conversation" between Eric and Sookie and here's what she said to me: "I think DEAD AND GONE will answer a lot of your hopes. Sookie's life is so frenetic that there seldom seems to be much opportunity for a thoughtful conversation. But we'll hope that Sookie and Eric have more time in the next book." Charlaine Harris Also - we find out a ton about Eric's past in the next book. She said it will be another dark book but #10 will be fun and will lighten up for Sookie. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. lmb1309, I'm with you -- book 8 was really rewarding the second time around, I got a lot out of it and I really liked how it set the stage for some big twists and developments.A special thanks for the insight from CH from her forum, I can't wait to learn more about Eric's part and I am THRILLED to know that there are plans for #10. I really liked the relationship thats growing between Eric and Sookie. Also, I loved finding out that Sookie isn't the only gifted one in her family! Dead to the World is my number 1 - I wish Eric's stay with Sookie had lasted a lot longer before he got his memory back and not just because the sex was hot, but because of the sort of old fashioned way he wanted to make her special in his life. I loved the scene where he sort of scolded Jason for not taking care of Sookie. Underneath all the confidence and cockiness and manipulation, Eric is an honorable guy. He could have Sookie any time he wants. but he leaves it to her as if she has a choice, when she really wouldn't if it were anyone else in his position and wanted her.I don't hate Bill, though, and I don't like the way he's made out to be a bad guy. I think Sookie needs both of them in her life, and she certainly doesn't need to hate either of them. 5 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Mogaine, you raise an interesting subject here about Bill and I think that as the sting of the truth has worn off, I don't think Sookie hates Bill anymore. I don't think she knows exactly what to feel but after their last meeting in book 8, I was left with the impression that Sookie didn't know what to feel for Bill but that she wasn't angry or hurt anymore -- I don't think she wanted to spend time with him, but I think there was a semblance of peace maybe? 4 out of 4 found this valuable. I also asked CH as well if both Sookie and Bill will move past the hate (on Sookie's part) and the shame (on Bill's part) and finally forge a real adult friendship (which I feel strongly they both deserve, esp. for character development/growth reasons) and...**POSSIBLE SPOLERS BELOW*** * * * * She responded that Sookie and Bill will certainly never have the same relationship again, yet cagily, she answered that some of my hopes may be answered (the same response as my Eric question). She also stated to someone else who asked something similar that "Bill is in the next book in no small way". So I think a real, solid friendship may be on the rise.....?? 8 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

It's exciting to think that we haven't seen the end of the connection between Bill and Sookie -- a different relationship for those two would be one that was entirely honest so I think the Bill fans can dare to hope for the future, maybe it's romance maybe it's the foundation of a solid friendship maybe it's both. I'm pulling for Eric and I want more Were action -- but that's just me. I also hope we haven't seen the last of Barry or Hunter. I also hope that the running gag about Fangtasia bartenders continues -- those poor bartenders are like drummers in Spinal Tap, maybe one will get stuck in a pod or spontaneously combust (although I like pretty but dim witted Felicia). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. "Response to possible spoilers......I'm a fan all the way around and agree with Morgaine that Sook needs both Eric and Bill in her life. I still think Eric adds mucho grande excitement in the books, so I'm a huge fan of his. Last book was VERY interesting to me. LOVED it. Agree with you on Barry and Hunter. I can't imagine CH bringing Hunter up and leaving him to hang without any role. And the bartenders are hilarious. When the newest one was made to introduce herself to Sook because of Pam, I was howling! And not even a were!!! That Pam. Gotta love her. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |
