"TARA NEEDS TO GO...the only one who can't act is her....if they cut out the useless scenes with her in it...it would be worth it.

As for Anna...she is portraying Sookie pretty good, although I find that in the books Sookie has much more of a backbone that Sookie in the show...she may be a virgin but she is tough and stubborn. I love Anna Paquin for this role cause she has that innocent face that is needed for Sookie with a little bit of spitfire."
Personally, I don't find Tara annoying. I think they set the character up that way in order to have the exorcism story more believable. I think Rutina is doing a really good job I love her and Lafayette.

What do you guys think about the accents. I'm a Southerner and I think they're alright, especially considering that Hollywood usually butchers Southern accents. I'd say they're fair to middlin' : ). However, some of my friends who are fellow Southerners say the accents are really bad. They get annoyed with the show over it. What do you all think? 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I lived in Shreveport for two years and the accents are pretty accurate. Its almost scary how Tara can sound like some of my girlfriends that are from there. Lafayette sounds very much like many people that I know there too. I think that everyone has done a wonderful job protraying the accents from Louisiana. Bill's accent is a little different, but I think maybe he is trying to sound different because he is from a different time period. None of the actors would be perfect unless they were from there and even when you are from a certain place not everyones accent is the same. I am from Nashville and I don't have as thick an accent as some.

I really don't have many complaints about the show. For the most part the acting is okay. I think Stephen Moyer is excellent as Bill. My complaints lie more with the bad make up (Eric's grease paint looking white face and darker body!) and not enough vampire time too much Tara's problems and Jason's sex life but overall I LOVE the show and can't wait for Sunday 9:00 every week. I am enjoying the books too and right now reading the fifth one- Dead as a Doornail. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

LMAO I noticed that myself. It did kind of yank me out of the story for a minute making me think wtf why did they do that!

i think that the acting has progressed quite a bit, i lived in Shreveport and NOLA most of my life and the accents are ok, Tara's is a bit over the top but for the most part they are dead on--even Rene is doing a decent Cajun, he sounds like my gramps and Dad Do you find this valuable?

All in all Tara's acting is good, but it doesn't portray the book Tara at all, so that makes it confusing. You try going from happy to pissed off in two seconds. :D That might be some of the confusion.

I think you should record your friends talking and then play it back for them. See what they think of their own accents after that.

Out of all of the actors, Ryan Kwanten has his accent nailed.

I think the only actor that needs to be replaced is Anna. No matter what scene she is in, the performance of the other actor suffers. An award as a child actor does not mean you can cover all roles. She is stiff, seems like she is always thinking about the line... there is nothing fluid or passionate about what she does. I hope they replace her next season. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. I don't agree at all about Anna being a bad actress. I haven't read the books yet and I don't know if I will too soon, because I don't want to pick the show apart. As far as the accents, I'm not southern so I can't say if they are accurate. I find Anna as Sookie to be believable and I like her. Sorry, but I don't think HBO is going to replace an actor like a soap opera. The show would suffer more if that were to happen. You're just going to have to learn to love her like the rest of us!!

i am from Puerto Rico but most of my english i learned in the south when i was station in the military, and i think is pretty good considering that most of the actors are not even american, Anna Paquin is from Nwe Zeland, stephen moyer is English, Ryan Kwanten is Australian, etc, they do ok, it will come with time.

Finally! Someone took the words from my mouth. I can't agree more. I commented many times about her acting. The delivery of her lines are terrible. Acting is believing! I don't feel that she believes or feels anything this character is going through. The lines are suppose to flow naturally between the characters. Your exactly right when you said that she is stiff. Perfect example of this is the scene where Tara comes into the kitchen when she has her head in the oven cleaning it. They get into an argument. I didn't feel anger from her at all. Just someone reciting her lines and saying them louder. It was as if she was rehearsing for a high school drama class. I don't want to seem rude about it, but she does not compare to the other actors. I feel what the other characters are going through, but don't feel that from her. I am also trying hard to understand how others can say that she is a good actress. I guess perception is everything. The other actors are developing their characters so well and Anna has remained the same. She just says different lines. I am disappointed that she got the lead when so many of the other actors and actresses are so much better. It would be different if one of the supporting roles was played bad, but she has the lead.

I never got into anything far as TV series. I watched this one night and was mad that it only came on once a week. The acting caught my eyes and i continue to watch. Yes every now and then the acting is off by them all but I think thats what make it so good it feels real. I had to go look the charaters up because I didn't think they acted in anything else lol. But they did . All in All the show and the actors are great. Do you find this valuable?

"That's interesting you say that about Tara. My neighbor is from Northern LA, where the show is supposed to take place basically, and he thinks her accent is by far the worst. He says her draw is too long. I don't care either way, but Sam and Jason both sound more like my neighbor than Tara by far. He thinks Gran is great."
My problem with Tara isn't her acting or accent.. (although i do feel its over done) but the fact that she was barely a footnote in the first book. Wasn't related to Layfayette and had olive tone skin. Yes she was a childhood friend of Sookie's but that I think is the only thing they got right!

"TARA'S ACTING IS THE MOST HONEST, UNFILTERED , REAL ACTING I'VE EVER SEEN.
TARA HAS TO STAY !!!???@@@****WHY DO WOMEN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE STRONG IN NATURE?
WE ALL LIKE STRONG MEN, WHY NOT STRONG WOMEN?
"
My problem with Tara is that she's been made too much a part of the show. In the book especially the first one she was barely mentioned. She can be as strong willed as you want; she just shouldn't be such a big part of the show. For that matter showing us everyone of Jason's sexual exploits is a bit over the top too... but I guess they have to do something to bring in viewers and sex usually does it if violence doesn't. I think that's also why they made Tara a minority and have almost a bigger role at this point that Sookie.

""Tara" is awesome! Of all the females on this show- she has the accent and the attitude down to a "T". I grew up around girls who walk, talk and act just like the actress portrays Tara."
I agree. I wrote before that I lived in Shreveport for several years and a lot of my girlfriends sound exactly like her. It's almost scarey how dead on she gets the accent. Even her facial expressions and mannerisms are just like my friends. I think that if I hadn't spent time in Shreveport I probably would have felt the same way as some of the others who have commented about Tara.
