For Those Who Have Read the Books . . . ?
Sep 8 2008, 11:06 AM EDT | Post edited: Sep 8 2008, 11:06 AM EDT
I've only just finished the first one (yeah yeah, I'm a little late to the game; I just graduated law school and this is the first time in seven years I've had free time to do anything, so cut me some slack). Anyway, I really like Bill, and since I am incapable of controlling myself regarding spoilers, I read the wikipedia entry on Sookie, and was rather crestfallen to discover why Bill and Sookie's relationship ended. My question is, do you think I should progress with the books anyway? I have a feeling I will start disliking Bill and I really would rather not. How long do Sookie and Bill last? In what book do they fall apart? Any input would be appreciated. 47  out of 51 found this valuable. Do you?

You really need to keep reading them they are worth it. And as you read them you wont hate Bill you will understand the predicament he was in that resulted in his and Sookies falling out. The breakup isnt in just one book it slowly evolves through several books. I have read this series multiple times and enjoyed it over and over. I really liked Bill but I also really liked Eric and.....cant really say much more or it will spoil the series for you, just believe that right when you start to hate Bill you read something that makes you understand his actions. 28  out of 32 found this valuable. I agree keep reading!! I think the seiries gets better with each book, and you will still like Bill in the end.

Bill is a complicated character. Most thoughtful readers will be able to see his character as a whole and be able to appreciate his good points, while understanding Sookie's POV as well.

Those who prefer formulaic romance should be warned: Ms. Harris does not write according to formulas. Her characters are complicated and continue to evolve throughout the series. Readers' strong opinions about them in most cases say more about the individual reader than about the character. This can get very interesting if you're a thoughtful reader.

I've read the complete series at least six times. I recommend you go forward. But be warned...the more of the series you read, the less you will like the television series. 41  out of 58 found this valuable. Do you?

Surely it's a little early in the TV series to say that. 19  out of 25 found this valuable. Do you?

If Charlaine Harris, the author of the books, is happy with how Alan Ball has envisioned the stories on the small screen I think that says it all.

Personally, I think that Alan has taken the series in a very good direction thus far and the books are awesome. Definitely read them!

I've read all the books, but only once. I loved seeing the way Sookie and Bill met. It seemed very obviously to reflect his reason for being there, which I didn't get from the book. After reading all the books I don't hate him, he was in a bad situation and did what he had to do to protect himself, then he got involved. I like the way Charlaine shows all the things he doesn't do for Sookie even though she completely gives herself over to him. Kind of a word to the wise for all those foolish people blinded by romance. 17  out of 17 found this valuable. Do you?

Having been a fan for a couple of year and having read all of the books, I am very impressed with the series. I will admit that I had envisioned some of the characters a little differently but that is the way printed stories work. As for those who ask about what happens later in the stories, realize that the characters develope as the books develope. They grow and change with the interaction of the other characters. As the HBO series grows, I am sure there will be some changes diverge from the books but as far as I can see the addition of Alan Ball's creative direction can only make for richer and more delicious story-lines. Who knows, we may get to see fuller and more in-depth characterizations. I for one am looking forward to every episode!! 21  out of 24 found this valuable. Do you?

I was surprised by the fallout between Sookie and Bill, and for a little while I found that I detested him. But after reading further, I've come to understand the predicament that Bill was placed in. I also like the fact that Sookie finds her own independence without him. I love this book series and the fact that I live in northern Louisiana makes it interesting as well. 14  out of 14 found this valuable. Do you?

You must must must read the rest of the books! If you want the answers to those questions do it! It is way way way worth it. I would be so so easy to tell you but that would be doing you an injustice.Trust me you'll love it and hint hint you will have a right to dislike Bill and then a reason to REALLY dislike Bill. Have fun and enjoy!!!

Yes, there is major stuff yet to come between Sookie and Bill. That you will dislike Bill - that is certain but you must read the entire series before you make your final decision about Bill and about Bill & Sookie's relationship. 10  out of 11 found this valuable. Do you?

Keep reading! The Books are different than the show. The books get in depth. Club Dead will tell you about Sookine and Bill. I got the Charlaine Harris series from a customer of mine. I started to read them because the covers looked cool (I know...) But I have to tell you, I have read 3 in less than 2 months and I cant waite to see what happens in the books. I was shocked to see a series, actually a little disapointed, because the books are so good, but now. I can visualize the dreamyness of Bill & Eric and how Sookies last name fits her "Stackhouse"...fisty little southern gal.

Seriously? Wow. The books are incredible. I like the show, but I don't think I could ever go as far as saying the show is more dynamic and interesting...

I've read them all a while ago with the exception of the most recent 'Dead to worse' and I have mixed feelings on Bill during the series of books I started to hate him but in the last couple of books I understand him better, you always have a spot in your heart for your first true love. Besides there are other characters to love even more like Eric my fav. 15  out of 16 found this valuable. Do you?

I have just finished reading "Club Dead" So I am now getting into the 'what and the whys' of why Bill betrayed Sookie. My advice would be to "READ ON"!! Except I have hit a little snag in my SVS reading. Like I said above I have just finished "Club Dead", so I went to Barnes and Noble AND Books-A-Million only to find out that neither of them had the 4th book!!!!! AHHHHHHH, so now I am off to Amazon to order them!! Did I mention that "I HATE WAITING!!!!!"
