This guy takes WAY broad strokes with the Vampire as social metaphor - and then attaches the ideas associated with the modern "movement".
Sounds like A LOT of psycho-babble, Jungian, and Joseph Campbell "Power of Myth" rehash.

If I have one Major problem, it is with the merging and blending ( or excusing) of Folkloric vampirism and / with modern Metaphoric Vampirism.

Note - no one EVER pretends - or clams to be the undead - or some hungry unstoppable and terrible thing returned to the grave.
Why?
Well - all those old stories (doesn't matter where in the world they come from) have one big thing in common; They are NOT sexy or glamourous!
Which is EXACTLY what people seem to be striving for in some regard ( or uniqueness - cause heaven forbid you be boring).
People imitate or emulate "Vampires" in accordance to a lifetime of perception driven by a century of media and marketing all rooting back to Varney the vampire - Stokers Dracula there after, and most notably - the 1931 Lugosi screen adaptation.

Its like what Hannibal Lecter said;
"People don't seek things to covet - they covet what they see every day."

The popular media concept of Vampires are Every where in our culture (such as out wonderful and Lovely True Blood), and therefore - what that image SELLS - sex, power, beauty - is what people BUY.
Spiritually, and fiscally.
