Vampirism/Vampyrism
"1st turd of the night
-http://www.drlwilson.com/articles/vampirism.htm
This guy takes WAY broad strokes with the Vampire as social metaphor - and then attaches the ideas associated with the modern "movement". Sounds like A LOT of psycho-babble, Jungian, and Joseph Campbell "Power of Myth" rehash.
If I have one Major problem, it is with the merging and blending ( or excusing) of Folkloric vampirism and / with modern Metaphoric Vampirism.
Note - no one EVER pretends - or clams to be the undead - or some hungry unstoppable and terrible thing returned to the grave. Why? Well - all those old stories (doesn't matter where in the world they come from) have one big thing in common; They are NOT sexy or glamourous! Which is EXACTLY what people seem to be striving for in some regard ( or uniqueness - cause heaven forbid you be boring). People imitate or emulate "Vampires" in accordance to a lifetime of perception driven by a century of media and marketing all rooting back to Varney the vampire - Stokers Dracula there after, and most notably - the 1931 Lugosi screen adaptation.
Its like what Hannibal Lecter said; "People don't seek things to covet - they covet what they see every day."
The popular media concept of Vampires are Every where in our culture (such as out wonderful and Lovely True Blood), and therefore - what that image SELLS - sex, power, beauty - is what people BUY. Spiritually, and fiscally.
" I don't know anything about this site, but I know that not all people relate the word "vampire" to folk lore, movies, books, or other media propaganda.
veritas471, there is a religion, and it worships its own gods and goddesses, and has a brotherhood, kinda like the Catholic sisterhood. It has nothing to do with life-styling or any of the rest of that nonsense. And no, they don't go running around with black cloths and fake fangs, or filing their teeth and what have you.
amorepoet7, Wicca is considered a religion by some because a life-style is usually considered a way in which one chooses to live their life, and a religion is regarded as having one or more deities. However, life-styling, or pretending to encompass a matter of being as into a way of life, is often related to the words life style, and it is considered to be immature and even bad. I've encountered people who are simply confused and/or ignorant of the difference in meaning between a religion and a lifestyle, and the media expressing the same mix up does not help in people's understanding.

Vampire Inspired Fashion
I'm a belly dancer and there is an emergening group of gothic-like belly dance called American Tribal Style. Many clothing designers of this style of dance create appropriate vampire attire. Check out www.geishamoth.com (one of my favorites!) or www.tribe.net for a very wide variety. Also look for a Middle Eastern or belly dance festival in your area to look at clothes in person.

I saw a vampire!
"ooooh, that sounds so creepy, and interesting at the same time, what gives in this thread---is this a "spooky" thread where we tell about when we thought we actually saw some shit that was real? because I think they are living down the street from me.They ONLY come out at night-Imean for everything .AND they have people do thier stuff for them, all of it ---you name it they pay to have it done during the day, then they come out at night ---very JACKED UP!!!!!" OR they are agoraphobic.
Just a thought.
And have no idea what is going on in this thread. Its bonkers. It seems to be a mix thus far of some people talking sightings and oddities, Some people debating the yes or no of gist of the post, and then "life Stylers" baiting any one who will listen.
Sorry Fangers - I don't mean to offend, but I am in the staunch camp that if you have a Pulse - you are NOT a vampire, no matter what your life style.

Eric is a goodlooking vampire.
Long hair!!!! I nearly cried when it got cut off, he looked so hot with it touching his shoulders.
I like the new look, don't get me wrong, but on a regular I love my vampires with longer hair. Eric was abosultely mouth watering when w saw him for the first time in the first season. He's actually what made me get into the show. At first I didn't care for it, then my bro tells me about this place called Fangtasia and its owner.... I was hooked!!
XOXO Kat

Season 2 style: Manscaping? *Spoilers
Manscaping is when a man's natural body hair is trimmed, reduced in area, or removed entirely.
Jason, you might recall, started Season 1 with a lovely hairy chest. They started shaving and trimming it in streaks and splotches, and eventually left him with nearly nothing. I love a hairy chest, so I found this quite dismaying.
Far worse is that Bill, whose stunning hairy chest was a big reason for me to love him, has apparently had his chest shaved bald for the first episode of Season 2. My disappointment at what should have been the high point of the episode, when he took off his shirt, being such an unpleasant shock knew no bounds.
With Jason there's a tiny bit of gray area, since he's pretty well built and shaving shows off muscles a little better, but under Bill's chest hair there's not much muscle definition, so what exactly was the point of making him shave? How has this made him more attractive?
I'm aware that some folks prefer a smooth chest, but if they were already watching the show then they must have found the characters sufficiently sexy as they were, meaning there was no need to alter anything for their sake. For me, and I'm betting some other viewers as well, changing the way the characters look means reducing their well-established appeal, which I think was a big mistake on the first show of a new season. I'd been eagerly awaiting this episode, as we all were, and would have liked to get through it without half of the sex appeal of the show being eliminated.
HBO, please let the men of True Blood have their chest hair back! If Jason is a lost cause, then at least give us back Bill's chest hair. Please let Bill go back to being a primal, sexy vampire!

So What Would YOU Wear to a Vampire Bar?
If, in some fantasy world, you were ever to visit a vampire bar - What would you wear?
For myself: a thick black up-to-the-chin turtleneck. .
