  • Sam & Sookie
"What do you think about the couple Sookie-Sam?"
    Hi Christie,
Thanks so much for starting this thread! I've been meaning to look for a Sam thread, or create one if needed, for awhile myself, but have gotten so bogged down reading other threads, filled with people who just want to discuss whether Sookie should be with Bill or Eric--neither, I say! I say it should be Sam!
That way I could live vicariously through Sookie! LOL
I know that you know by now that I am a "Sam's Girl"! ( see picture to the left!-- smiles)
I have been a Sam fan since I read the books, before there was ever a True Blood show!
I think it's the most natural and most permanent relationship that Sookie can hope for!
She just doesn't have the emotional maturity to realize it yet!
Sam is everything Sookie could want: He's loving, loyal, protective, and he wants to spend all his time with her, and keep her safe, not to mention, he's extremely handsome--total "eye candy"!
Despite his being a shifter, they could still be married, have children, and as close to a "normal life" together as she could hope to get.
She can read his emotions, but not always his thoughts, so it would be easy for her to relax with him, and not have to keep her guard up all the time...
I will elaborate on this further in the future, but that is enough for now! I have other friends who like Sam, and I will be bringing them over to this thread! So we can all admire Sam together, and discuss their storyline!

    I only have one question:
Are we allowed to talk about the books on this thread? It doesn't matter to me, but I thought I should ask, in case others who join us, and have not read the books, want to know if there will be book information (spoilers) allowed!

  • Sam & Sookie: Should they be together?
"Bill is, at least, honest. Sam is not to be trusted. he is not a 'good guy'. Sam may well be the serial killer that Bellefleur seeks. Bellefleur is, lately, a Vampire Bill supporter (a descendant of Bill's?). Even if Sam were not the killer - he has an anger problem; i think he hates women; would like total control of any woman in his life; has a severe jealousy streak, and so on. Not the kind of guy any good girls should hook up with. Whereas Bill Compton is a gentleman, despite his vampire self. He does not feed on Sookie involuntarily. If i had to bet my money, Bill's her man. Sam's her stalker."
No, No and again No. They are not right for each other at all. Sookie does not respect Sam in the same way that she does Bill. Nor does she have the same type of feelings for him.

It would be a dishonest relationship, one sided and would end up hurting Sam and Sookie in the long run.

I don't get that Sam particularly hates women, I think he is just hopeless with them at this point. He always says and does the wrong thing. Though you are right he is very possesive and jealous. Not good for any relationship.

  • Not into Sam hmmm really not into Sam...I pictured him a lot differently in the book and didn't think they'd reveal his feelings for Sookie in the first episode!

  • Sookie, Meet Bill.. &Tara, you Know Sam? I was actually surprised that Tara told Layfayette, But honestly I don't think that it will affect Sookie that much. She clearly does not see Sam in a romantic way. Bill offers her silence, and it must be refreshing, not to have to actively block out someone's thoughts all the time. As Tara pointed out to Sam. I was thinking how difficult it would be to have a relationship with someone, knowing their thoughts all the time. Could get a guy in trouble if ya know what I mean. I actually would prefer to see Tara with Sam. He would be a calming force in her life. Although I doubt it is in the cards. I know we all are attracted to the bad boys in life, but sometimes the good ones are the ones that you can actually live with.

  • Reasons why Sam and Sookie SHOULD be together..... 1. I think they are perfect for each other even though they may not realize it
Reasons for this? Well I was re-watching episode 11 when they finally share an intimate moment with each other and What I saw where two people who really get along well and even work well together while investigating her killer. They seemed to really enjoy each others company in a fun way rather in just a romantic way like with her and Bill. Let me state right now, that I do enjoy Bill and Sookie's relationship with each other, but I just can't see them being together for the rest of their lives. But I can with Sam and Sookie.

    2. They both have a fundamental ability that has caused them much suffering and isolation in their lives. Sam can shapeshift which freaked his family out and caused him to run away causing him to be such an intrusive person hardly ever sharing anything about him with anyone. Sookie has her Telepath ability which allows her to see other people's most personal thoughts and either caused them to see her as a freak or have her stay away from anyone. And although she has no shame in telling others about her ability it has still caused her much pain and loneliness regardless. This is something they can both share on a very profound level like they can with no other.

    3. They are both mortal. Sookie's probably going to really realize eventually that her love for Bill will just end up causing him much suffering much later on when she finally grows old and dies. He will have to have live throughout her lif thinking that she will die and may cause him much personal pain and misery during and after her life. Due to this she could try to break off her relationship with him in a respectful way understanding this and could eventually see Sam as a guy she could be with due to his mortality and due to his down right loyalty and kindness to her.

  • Bill and Sookie I do not want Bill to go away. Oddly enough, I am quite upset right now. I have not read the books YET. So, I am unsure what's exactly to come, but from everything I am reading and finding out, for me anyway, it's not looking good. I do NOT like Eric or Sam, or anyone else. I want Bill and Sookie to be together, and STAY together. Like I said, oddly enough, I am quite upset. To the point. where if I see Sookie with Eric, or Sam or ANYONE else boyfriend wise, I am afraid I am not going to watch it.... UGH!! I do not get what's wrong with Bill. Yes... I know they have their little moments, and at times, he can be creepy, but she doesnt get HE'S A VAMPIRE. Yeah, he's going to be at least a little creep time to time. I would be with Bill in a heart beat. He's a true old fashioned gentlemen. And another user said the only thing they do not like about Bill is that he can be "controlling" of her, and teritorial (sp?) (I'm a bad speller, don't mind it lol) BUT, in ways... to me anyway, I find it very indearing in ways. That he loves her so much, and would not want to see her with ANYONE else. If there were a perfect Vampire out there, Bill would be him. He's so charming, and a true Southern gentlemen. He's old fashioned, and that's VERY appealing to me. Even, the jealous, possive (sp?) ways are appealing in some odd way. AND, episode 105, when you learn more about Bill, OH MY GOD!! How sad. I love that episode. You really get to know him more. I KNEW he didnt want to be a Vampire by choice. What a gentlemen he was when he politely turned the woman away. And he drank the Vampires blood, ONLY because he wanted to see his FAMILY again, and did not obviously have a total understanding of being a Vampire. And yes, Stephen Moyer is quite indearing, and talented. Bill the character, and Stephen Moyer, the actor have been on my mind since 101. BUT with my luck, she won't end up with Bill.

  • Sam & Bill Ok I am a new book reader so I am totally going of the show (That I love) If Sam is a Shap Shifter on the night Sookie's Grams Died Vamp Bill said he only heard 1 car, so my ? is could same not go in Dog form and do it. It was like he was just at her home, we seen Bill run but what about Sam? Any thoughts. Also I must Say I love Lafayette, He is a cool redneck asskicking gay guy- He has allot to work with or places they can go with him and Tara is a bitchy chick (With a Demon) but a loving friend and Sookie is Just cool.

But it is a downer that Bill is going to be bad, after that love scene. But bring on Eric who would not do that. He can Bite me.

I also read that Maybe Vin was coming on?

  • Tara & Sam
"It will be nice to see where they go with this story because it is not part of the books. I'm curious. Where are they going with Taras mom and her demon???"
I enjoyed Tara & Sam's relationship in Ep. 6. They finally seem to be making Tara into a more complex character and less the stereotype of an angry black woman. The actress who plays Tara is beautiful and obviously very talented and I look forward to seeing what will happen next. I don't mind ther movement away fron the books, in fact I am glad because ultimately I want to see Bill & Sookie together regardless of what happens along the journey and despite what happens in the books.

  • Eric and Sookie NO SPOILERS HERE
"As the books are done in first person perspective - the lack of 'back story on what was happening outside of the range of our heroine's eyesight did leave AB with lots of room for development. I must say that i too enjoyed some of the peripheral character development - Sam and Tara, and Tara's mother's, (although i'm not sure it really worked for me) Jason's exploits were a bit overdone for my taste - but true to character, and Jennifer (Gag!), and of course the crafting of a 3-dimensional Lafayette!!
Leaves one wondering how well some of the peripheral characters will be fleshed out in Season 2 - as there are more peripheral characters to deal with - and where AB will take them!!! I'm just hoping he stays true to SH's character development and growth of our main characters at the same time - like Eric!!!"
I agree, and I too hopes he stays true to the basic storyline in the book, and of course keeping Eric and Sookie's relationship true to the story. I'm just concerned that their relationship development will be altered by making Eric more of a bad guy than he really is.

I thought Jason's escapades were way overdone almost to pointless. Tara's story too.

I can deal with Eric's hair difference, it's tv. everything can't be the same i guess. Just goes to show Alan Ball, how "fervent" book fans can be about the characters they love.

    All hail the northman!!

  • Sam MERLOTTE I am curious about his past. For some reason, I think he has a sister or some siblings who are shifters. I think your parents have to be shifters to become shifters, but I cannot remember. Like, I wonder if it skips a generation. Why would his family give him up? Sam is, in some ways, very uncomfortable with who he is. I wonder if there was a time where he was able to be himself with someone else, anyone?

Um...hopefully, when we learn about this past, he will have had some relationship with some non waitress. Also, I would love to see a look into his past where he has fun with shifting and being free. Like, what does he like about it. So far, we have sort of only seen it as an obligation to protect or something. It seems like work. But, there must be a fun part. I remember he said something about it being a private pleasure when Sookie joked about him being in a car with his head out the window.

Something tells me this is a very sensuous man who enjoys different pleasures in life. He could be more fun than we have seen to date. Since the sheet sniffing, my radar has been up.

  • Sookie's Hairstyle as indicator of plot Okay, I am a new/novice blogger--this series has inspired me to seek out others that are equally obsessed. I was so disappointed with actions of Sookie and Sam in ep11 with my 1st reaction being "what crappy writing." However, I know that these are good writers so have started looking for explanations. I have gone back and started watching all the episodes again and I noticed something about Sookie's hair. In first episodes her hair at work is always yanked back very tightly (loose and flowing when she is at home (away from strangers). As her relationship develops with Bill, she still pulls her hair back but it is softer. In ep11, her hair is yanked back tight again all the time. My guess is that tight hair indicates she is trying to gain some control/protect herself from the world and/or possibly her fear that Bill has rejected her. Interested in hearing from others on this.
