Bill and Sookie
If Alan Ball does this right, he will stray somewhat from the books but preserve the themes and the overall tension in relationships. I have read all the books, save the latest, and I must say that Sookie does not come across as an independent feisty woman who can take care of herself. That is only part of her story. The books seem to portray her less than favorable side. She is jealous, childish, and has a lack of understanding about man-woman relations, let alone Vampire-woman relations. It's as if having had to close herself off from people's thoughts, also eclipsed her development of social skills. That having been said, I think AB would do well to keep these two together for a while. In fact, the HBO Sookie & Bill are both teacher and student to one another in the ways of life, love, and law (Vampire & Human). But even HBO Sookie gets petulant and jumps to conclusions instead of using her head. Too 1940's--let's bring her up to date. She's not supposed to be as old as Bill. :),

Bill and Sookie
"I do not want Bill to go away. Oddly enough, I am quite upset right now. I have not read the books YET. So, I am unsure what's exactly to come, but from everything I am reading and finding out, for me anyway, it's not looking good. I do NOT like Eric or Sam, or anyone else. I want Bill and Sookie to be together, and STAY together. Like I said, oddly enough, I am quite upset. To the point. where if I see Sookie with Eric, or Sam or ANYONE else boyfriend wise, I am afraid I am not going to watch it.... UGH!! I do not get what's wrong with Bill. Yes... I know they have their little moments, and at times, he can be creepy, but she doesnt get HE'S A VAMPIRE. Yeah, he's going to be at least a little creep time to time. I would be with Bill in a heart beat. He's a true old fashioned gentlemen. And another user said the only thing they do not like about Bill is that he can be "controlling" of her, and teritorial (sp?) (I'm a bad speller, don't mind it lol) BUT, in ways... to me anyway, I find it very indearing in ways. That he loves her so much, and would not want to see her with ANYONE else. If there were a perfect Vampire out there, Bill would be him. He's so charming, and a true Southern gentlemen. He's old fashioned, and that's VERY appealing to me. Even, the jealous, possive (sp?) ways are appealing in some odd way. AND, episode 105, when you learn more about Bill, OH MY GOD!! How sad. I love that episode. You really get to know him more. I KNEW he didnt want to be a Vampire by choice. What a gentlemen he was when he politely turned the woman away. And he drank the Vampires blood, ONLY because he wanted to see his FAMILY again, and did not obviously have a total understanding of being a Vampire. And yes, Stephen Moyer is quite indearing, and talented. Bill the character, and Stephen Moyer, the actor have been on my mind since 101. BUT with my luck, she won't end up with Bill. " I agree with your sentiments completely. Maybe it's not politically correct, but I actually like how possessive he is. It has more to do with Bill being old-fashioned than being a closet misogynist. How can you tell? Because at no point does he take his anger out on her in a way that would actually hurt her. He really just wants to protect her. More than that, he has to protect her. If you read the books, it is just so obvious the two of them belong together. Even though Bill does some bad things and a lot of shit goes down, Sookie and Bill's relationship is so much more intense than her relationship with anyone else, including Eric who at times is more like a "friend with benefits." I don't see why Charlaine Harris would so blatantly write it that way if she didn't plan to have them end up together at the end.
Sigh...I hope they stay together in the show too.

prediciton sfor Sookie & Bill's relationship by 2nd season end
My prediction is based on both the series and the books. Alan Ball stated that the relationship between Sookie and Bill will be strong during the second season. With the return of Lorena and the appearance of the Queen, I'd look for a Season Cliffhanger with Sookie finding out about the Queen and Bill being 'recalled' by Lorena. That way next season we could see the relationship with Eric heat up and have a 3rd season's end with Bill and Sookie back together. But what do I know, Alan Ball could develop all sorts of different plots and cliffhangers, as he has creative license!

Sookie and Bill ep #8
"Naked guy as the above said was Sam, Terry Bellefleur even says so in the boat. Uncle Bartlet did go in the lake." Maybe Bill get him out of the lake, he doesn't have to breath so he can take as long as he needs. I hate that he dropped him in a lake, a vamp should be able to hide a body much better. But i dont think it was the uncle in the coffin, cuz he wudda burnt up like a person does, not bubbled like what was shown. Bill cannot be dead, its not wishfull thinking, its kinda fact (not spoiler, i just really believe this) becaus his story is so open ended, no writer would leave it like that. I think he is in his grave, and he will be around to save sookie from eric when she goes to the Fantasia looking for Bill(again, guessing). BTW, I hate sam, he isnt much better than Jason in the sense that he "loves" sookie, but will gladly fuck her best friend, and he is a dick to Tara, for wanting a "relationship" when harboring such feelings for another woman. Bill and Sookie will probably have a nice makeup sex scene in the next episode, if not the next one. I just really want them to like go out in public and seem like a real couple, so people wont just call her a slut (OR SKANK!) or a fangbanger; the man she fell for just happened to be avamp.

Reasons Sookie and Bill should NOT be together...
Okay Ill help you guys out ;), playing devils advocate here, hehe. But I think on the show, Sookie idolizes Bill in a way. He is the first vampire shes ever known and I think she sees him with rose colored glasses. She also ignores her friends and personal life when with Bill. So its true what they say, love IS blind. And IMO thats a weakness for her. And will spell dissapointment down the line. And ofcourse in the books, their relationship has been build on lies.
But the good news in all this is, you dont want perfect. If you thought they were perfect for eachother at this point, its going to be bad news in the end. So it gives them more room to work on things. :)

Reasons Sookie and Bill should be together...
Bill can allow himself to be vulnerable with Sookie. He shows her and tells her that he wants her and needs her. Every woman needs that in a relationship.

Bill
I think that today's cliche Hollywood portrayal of southerners might have affected your perception.
Bill was a farmer, rugged and working class, but that does not preclude that he was gentlemanly in behavior. All economic classes were very strict in behavior between the sexes. Courting was not allowed unless a relative or long time family friend made a formal introduction for example, even if the couple already knew each other,as a required rite for respectability of any future relationship. I think old Hollywood portrayed the farmer in their old westerns with more authenticity (a fluke for old Hollywood perhaps) in both behavior and appearance, and I am pleased that whoever selected the look for Bill chose authenticity over a stereotypical look of what a modern day southerner would have to look like in order to be acceptable to a mass audience. I do understand your perception, but I disagree with it. To me changing Bill's look on True Blood from what it is would be a lot like having Eric and Pam cutting their hair. It would not fit the time they came from.

Can someone summarize: Bill and Sookie and Eric ----
-----Short version below-------
I'm a newcomer to this show, just recently finished going through S1 dvds and S2 on demand over the past few weeks. Based on ONLY watching the tv shows, it looks like:
1) Bill and Sookie *genuinely* love each other (he went into the sun to save her, super protective of her, marriage proposal, etc) 2) Eric is a conniving a-hole that's trying to split them up because he selfishly wants Sookie for himself
~~book spoilers now~~ But based on what I've been reading here, that is *completely* different from the situation in the books, and a lot of people seem to want these relationships to get switched around to be like they are in the books.
But from my perspective, having only watched the show, it would be *absolutely crazy* to have Bill willingly screw around (and also reveal that his whole relationship with Sookie was just a ploy for the Queen), then have Bill break up with Sookie, and then have her hook up with Eric instead. It sounds like a total cop-out and jumping the shark to the extreme.
****So here's my question: Why should casual viewers like me accept the Eric + Sookie outcome?
I'm willing to have an open mind about it, if that's how the books go, but based on the things that have happened in the TV show, it seems absolutely insane IMO to split up Bill and Sookie. The only way that would work is if there was a *temporary* misunderstanding between them that ultimately gets resolved and we see them back together again.
So what's the consensus? Why should it be Eric + Sookie instead of Bill + Sookie ??
??
