Synopsis: Aftermath of Tara finding out the exorcism was a fake
November 2008 Tara walked up to the dark trailer with confidence. She knew Sam wasn’t home and didn’t even think where he might be. She hadn’t spoken to him except when she was working and that was just to tell him what was low in the bar and whatnot. She did apologize for how she acted at the party and he accepted, but then it was the cold shoulder again. She figured it was fun while it lasted. Not wasting anymore time Tara slipped the envelope with the eight hundred dollars Sam had lent her under his door and made her way back to her car. “I surmise there was no one at home?” To say she was surprised was an understatement. She jumped so far back she was practically back on Sam’s porch. “What the hell! I know you had to see me before I saw you. Couldn’t you have made more noise or something?” “I do apologize. I meant no harm. I was hoping to find out how Sookie was fairing?” “Well I haven’t seen much of Sookie lately and can’t say that I will anytime soon. So I can’t help you Mr. Compton.” She got in her car fast and was about to leave when for some reason she looked up and saw the sadness in the vampire’s face. “Fuck me.” Tara whispered to herself and got out of her car to talk to him. “Look right now you may have something to worry about where Sam is concerned, but Sookie cares about you. Sure those two got history, but you’re the one she doesn’t have to hide from. So don’t go giving up on her regardless of what she’s doing or may do in the future ok.” “Thank you kindly Miss Thornton. I’m sure that wasn’t easy.” “Oh, but it is. She’s my best friend since we were little girls. I knew how Sam felt about her so I know what I was getting myself into and that’s on me no one else.” “Sam’s a fool.” That statement made Tara laugh. “Don’t I know it. Anyhow I got to go. You take care Mr. Compton.” “Likewise Miss Thornton and please feel free to call me Bill all my friends do.” Tara winked an eye at him. They had an understanding of sorts and that was they both cared about Sookie. If Tara thought she was going to get away scott-free she was sorely mistaken. Sam was pulling up his driveway as she was nearing her car. She didn’t even need to look back to know Bill was no longer there with her. “Well this is unexpected. Everything ok?” “Everything’s fine Sam so stop you’re worrying. I just stopped by to give you the money you lent me.” Be careful when you walk in it’ll be on the floor in front of the door.” “I didn’t ask for it back Tara.” He looked at Tara, but she just kept talking. “Be careful when you walk in it’ll be on the floor in front of the door.” The butterflies in her stomach and the shortness of breath could make her want to do things with Sam, but it was the ache in her heart that kept her from completely wanting him. “I got to go Sam.” This time she made it to her car without incident. Apart of her was disappointed expectedly as Sam just stood where he was watching her. “Fuck this!” Tara ran back to Sam and jumped into his arms. Her legs wrapped around his waist and she felt his hands cup her tight ass. They didn’t make it into the trailer and neither did all their clothes make it onto the front porch. Now both of them were breathing hard as Sam sat in one of the porch chairs with Tara still in his lap. “I won‘t say I‘m sorry for what happened.” “What do you want me to say? I’m hot for you Tara, but this thing with Sookie?” She wasn’t mad at him for ruining the moment. She just cupped his face in her soft hands and kissed him long and slow. She took a little satisfaction in knowing that he would probably always want her in this way. Then she was up and away from him. “You’re a good man Sam Merlotte. I’ll be seeing you ok.” This time she made it to her car without incident, but she couldn’t help looking back at the one man who got through to her and didn’t even know it. Sam stood there with his shirt open and Levi’s half-way buttoned. He waved at Tara as she drove off not knowing that it would be some years before he saw her again.
