Moderator, I hope this thread isn't already started but I'm pretty sure its not (only one for TV quotes). But I was just starting to re-read the series again and I'm on 'Living Dead in Dallas' and I got to a particularly funny line and thought I'd share.
From LDID Chapter 2: "But I knew Bill's huge thrill was when he drank from me. He might have a pretty steady diet of Lifeflow, (The most popular marketing name for the synthetic blood) but nipping my neck was incomparably better. He could drink some bottle A positive synthetic blood in a bar full of people, but if he planned on a mouth full of Sooke Stackhouse, we better golly be in private!" I probably have hundreds more I love but thought I'd start there :)

Although I am loving True Blood every Sunday, I also was very much into the Twilight Saga and am eagerly anticipating the movie release November 21. I thought it was great the way they strayed away from the traditional vampire mythology. For instance them not being able to go out in the sunlight because it will kill them. Instead they can't do it cause the glitter and it would attract to much attention for mortals. I would like to get anyone else's feedback on this series...

Have any of you all read Many Bloody Returns, which says it includes a Sookie Stackhouse story, and is it worth buying? Where does it fit into the series time line?

Which do you prefer, bill and sookie's love scene in the book or the one in episode 4?
I love that we get to actually see bill and sookie in the series but I think that the way they get together in the book makes more sense. In the series the whole night gown and running across the cemetery to meet bill just didn't seem like sookie to me. What does everyone else think?

Hey whats up. I just read all the books last week (got into the show so I figured I'd check em out). Anyway, I had a lot of issued with the books and I honestly like the series better, even though I think the books have a good story.... anyway, my question for other readers who like the series is--Is there anything that you hope gets left out of the series? It's obvious that certain things are getting added (Tara and Sam, Jason's V addiction)... but what about things that happened in the book that you wish didn't? I am thinking of a couple of things in particular--For one, I hope Lafayette doesn't get murdered! I am growing to love his character more and more each episode. And another... I REALLY hope that the whole thing about the queen sending Bill to find and seduce Sookie gets left out because that was SUCH a huge letdown to me. I really feel their connection on screen and I don't want that to be turned upside down for me... Granted, that happens pretty late in the books, but it's been on my mind... Any other issues or characters that you could live without seeing on screen??
PS - Can't WAIT for more Eric!!

I've only just finished the first one (yeah yeah, I'm a little late to the game; I just graduated law school and this is the first time in seven years I've had free time to do anything, so cut me some slack). Anyway, I really like Bill, and since I am incapable of controlling myself regarding spoilers, I read the wikipedia entry on Sookie, and was rather crestfallen to discover why Bill and Sookie's relationship ended. My question is, do you think I should progress with the books anyway? I have a feeling I will start disliking Bill and I really would rather not. How long do Sookie and Bill last? In what book do they fall apart? Any input would be appreciated.

Now we all know that Mr. Ball's True Blood and Charlaine's Sookie Stackhouse Series are meant to be seperate entities but what individual who has read the beloved series can help to compare? Hence the invention of the category of book snob. One who has read the series and can't help but notice the differences. This thread will talk about each episode in season 2 after they have been shown. So WARNING SPOILERS FOR ALL THE BOOKS/SHOW! Let's begin shall we?
Episode 1 Season 2 1. LAFAYETTE IS ALIVE!?! Okay I love me some Lafeyette as much as the next girl but come on ... he is sooooo dead! I guess it will be interesting to see Alan's take on his demise and now we have all the drama on who killed Miss May. 2. Eric .. all I have to say So as you can probably guess by my sign in, I am an Eric fan all the way so I have to ask myself ... what the heck are they doing to my beloved viking? First off, they have him in that hairdressers gown with what looks like foils for highlights? Soooo out of character in my book. Then they villianize him once again with having him the one kidnapping all these people along with Lafeyette and bitting that dude in the side/ thigh? Come on! As much as I adore Eric's bad *** nature Alan is making him out as the villian it seems to me. 3. Jessica As much as I was against her in the beginning, as I was to all non-book introduced characters, she is kind of growing on me. Plus anything that leads to Sookie/Bill drama is alright in my book. 4. Bill's Apology As much as a non-Bill fan I have become through 9 books the Sookie/Bill scenes still tug at my heart strings. He does always say the right things and his apology by the door was spot on. I was right their with Sookie on the "Damn you Bill Compton." (cont in next thread)

Hey, y'all - there are some spoilers floating around for the new book, so here's a place to talk about them. Please remember not to carry spoilers into the Spoiler Free Zone, and to use lots of spoiler space if you have to mention them in a non-spoiler thread. Thanks! I can't wait now!

Since the next Southern Vampire book is not coming out until May of 2009, I would like to start must read list for those just starting their own foray into the Urban Fantasy genre.
PLEASE NOTE: Their is a big difference between Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, and Fantasy. If you want to add to the list, PLEASE STATE what genre it is. --Urban Fantasy-- I recommend the follow authors: Kim Harrison, an excellent author of the Rachel Morgan series. Her world is as unique as the Sookieverse, but it is more indepth with witches and the magic itself. Vampires (both living and undead). Werewolves and the Fae.... and don't forget Jenks the pixie. Laurell K Hamilton...the Mother of Urban Fantasy. I know, I know... everyone talks about Anne Rice and the modern vampire, but LKH honestly created the first world in which all the things that go bump in the night are real...in fact, they might be your next door neighbor. The first 5 books of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series are excellent. Unfortunately, the second she added sex to the mix, it started going downhill... *le sigh* Patricia Briggs-- I haven't read her pure fantasy novels but her Mercedes Thompson series is as good as the Southern Vampire series. Her heroine is smart, non-whiny, and can take care of herself. --PARANORMAL ROMANCE-- Okay... we've all got our guilty pleasures... here's one of mine... Christine Feehan and her Dark series... The newest ones are eh...okay, but her early ones are good and mooshy. If you want a romance where they stay together f-o-r-e-v-e-r... then these are the books for you. I will add more to the list when I get home from work... Enjoy...

Harris and Meyers main charactors?? Yes, I know things are switched around a bit. As in Sookie can hear peoples thoughts and not Bills, just like Edward can hear the same thing but just not Bellas. I just can't help comparing them!!! Now dont get me wrong I LOVE the Twilight series. But after finding out about True Blood, I cant help but wondering where Meyers got alot of her charactor traits from. I am still a dedicated Meyers fan but I was just curious to see if anyone else was wondering the same thing. Cheers

I rented the Blockbuster DVD of the first episode. I enjoyed the characters in the show - they fit who they are playing. The only thing for most unreaders of the book will be the telepathic messages she is receiving -- when you have read the books you know that she is telepathic - but someone who has not read them the messages can be quite a bother. And I admit it was different for me to hear them but I am a scifi fan and have experienced this before in movies - so it did not bother me as much as it did my husband. I was very excited when I happened upon the ad on TV and suspected that it might be based on the Charlaine Harris books. I was elated when I confirmed it. I am also a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan but knew already that Sookie (from the books) was a different character than Buffy. I have just finished the latest novel - "From Dead to Worse" - and loved it! I don't have HBO but look forward to watching the episodes via the website.......... I have already read/heard blog interviews that this first season is based on the first book -- I look forward to the series! GOOD LUCK!

Just finished reading Living Dead in Dallas and Omigod! I am definitely hooked on the books now! I was hooked before I got halfway through, but the scenes with Eric toward the end of the book were priceless. I was literally screaming with laughter when Eric revealed his "party clothes" to Sookie.

Hey guys...I just got a new book in the mail today (ordered from AMAZON). It's called The Girl's Guide to Vampires. I've not started looking through it yet...but (OF COURSE) I looked to see if there is anything about our friend Sookie. There is a whole page on Charlaine Harris's books (i.e. the southern vampire mysteries) and it mentions True Blood. Again...I've not started reading it yet, there are facts and stats about vampires. It looks really cool so far, I've had it pre-ordered for while. Has anyone else seen this yet?

Does anyone know of any other vampires series (books) that are an easy read? I've read the Anne Rice novels which I love, but don't consider them an easy read, if that makes any sense. I don't fly through reading them anyway as I did Charlaine Harris's vamp books. And I've read the Twilight series as well. I was looking for another series I could read and enjoy if anyone has any suggestions?
