I think the show's version of Tara is totally different than the book. Honestly, she got on my nerves --- too rude and brash. I just couldn't get her acting this way and still having a thing for Jason, it's like the two ideas don't mix seem possible for her character the way it's being played.

Any thoughts on Rutina as Tara? I personally have not read the books though I have learned from other threads that some are upset , that in them Tara is white and that she isn't on the show. IMO I think she is great! I was born and raised in North Georgia, and though I can't vouch for a true Louisiana accent, I have to say I just love hearing her talk!
Some posts state that Tara and Sookies lines are pretty much interchangable, after giving it some thought, I can see their point, but I have to say that the problem is with Sookie's lines rather than Tara's. I think Tara's dialogue is spot on where as Sookie's still needs a LOT of work before it leaves the writers desk and makes it's way to the set. Too much of Sookie's character seems to be assumed, (as if everyone has read the books), she needs to articulate a lot more for those of us who are experiencing this wonderful adventure for the first time. I love Tara's story line, I watch every week, waiting to see what will happen next...and correct me if I'm wrong...but, isn't this show primarily about Sookie and Bill? LOL I also watch in inticipation to see my dear Lafayette, but, from what I'm reading here, it looks like his days may be numbered even though he seems to be leaving behind quite a bit of unfinished business. Anyway, those are just my thoughts.

IIs there any ideas on what thedeal is with Tara's mother? Is she being brainwashed to be so hateful to her daughter? Or does ths woman just not get it?

I have not read the books yet but I am DYING to know. I'm assuming the dirty naked women with the pig is now the social worker who bailed Tara out of jail last night. Since she took Tara back to her house is she going to turn Tara into whatever she is?

Tara is sassy, intelligent, outspoken to the extreme but up under all of that there is a hint of vulnerability.

well it just seems if she is so poisonous and has a "demon" inside her . . .then sam told sookie that werewolves are nasty, evil creatures . . .and Tara has been one of the strongest objections to Sookie and Bill being together . . .not to mention how ferociously protective she is of Sookie. . . All those things, and something I can't put my finger on just makes me think she's a werewolf . . .or a shapeshifter and doesn't know it yet. Anybody else thinking along these lines?

I love Tara's character! She doesn't mess around. She does things that we only think about doing. That girl got guts! Don't you wish you could always speak your mind??? I know I do especially where I work ^ _ ^

I am watching Numbers on CBS right now and Rutina is on it. She is Sarah, a date of one of the main characters. Looks like she is a bad girl...still watching though. Interesting.

Okay so I just watched the early air pilot (watchtrueblood.net, its a bootleg, but still)...
As much as I wasn't sure how I liked the Show Tara... she is growing on me. But going back and watching the early-air pilot... no offense to the other actress... but I am glad they recast her. The earlier Tara didn't have the... balls, I guess... to back up the dialogue. Though she was a little prettier I guess...

I watch it all Buffy, Battle Star Galactica, Xena, FarScape, Angel, Lost, Heroes, All things X-men and I must say Tara Thorton is the SugarHoneyIceTea. He comments are so appropriate and filled with so much candor. The complexities of her past and her present situation is so interesting and captivating and rivals that of the main character.
I dare say she is one of the best side kicks in the genre! I think the show would be boring without her. I fall in love with her more every episode!
