Posting and Discussion Forum RulesThis is a featured page

UNDER CONSTRUCTION [Needs proofing, graphics, approval, links]

(1) Where should I post first?

Come say hello in the Welcome thread ! Introduce yourself.

(2) Search for an existing discussion thread.

(Starting new threads should be a last resort, not your first action.)
  • Do a 'Search this site' (near the right top of the site) and make sure your topic isn't already being discussed.
  • Go to main Discussion area. Look through the categories that best fit your interest.
  • Go to the All Threads area. See the most active threads.
  • Look through the Featured Threads. These threads have been featured by the moderators.
  • Duplicate threads will be deleted. It's nothing personal, it's just that we need to limit the number of threads in the Discussion Forum to keep it navigable. We can't combine threads.

(3) Posting in an existing discussion thread.

(Starting new threads should be a last resort, not your first action.)

  • There is ONE official thread for each episode, already on the site before the preview for the show airs. Discussion of that episode belongs there. Please don't start new ones for episodes.

  • Clearly mark you spoilers! Unmarked spoilers will be deleted.

  • Stay out of the SPOILER FREE Zone if you have read the books. Don't pick up spoilers on the Forum and take them in there, or overseas episode "recaps" for episodes that haven't yet aired in the U.S.

  • To clarify the above, once you have posted in spoiler-request, ultimate spoils, and other spoiler areas, you are no longer welcome to post in the Spoiler-Free Zone. This is a zero tolerance policy.

(4) Why was my post deleted?

(Starting new threads should be a last resort, not your first action.)

Moderators attempt to send a PM to each person whose thread was deleted but with upwards of 40 a day, it isn't always possible. Imagine what it would be like to navigate this forum with 40 more ambiguous threads since yesterday - there would be no way to have a dialog, or to find anything.

We're all excited about the show, and it's easy to just show up and start a new thread rather than doing a search for the right thread to make your post in. So if your thread was deleted, it was for one of the following reasons:

  • There are already multiple threads on that subject. We have MANY threads on Bill, Eric, Sam, the killer, the villian, the spoilers, and assorted "I love this show" or "this show sucks" threads. New ones will be deleted.
  • There was a Spoiler in the title or body that wasn't properly marked.
  • The title was non-descript ("OMG" tells people nothing about the content of the thread) or had so much punctuation that it messed up the thread (One or two ?? or !! maximum, please.
  • It was outside the official thread for each episode. There will be ONE thread per episode posted just before the Preview of the show airs. Any additional threads that reference the episode will be deleted, even if it has replies on it, so please make sure you are in the right thread.

Sometimes your thread has simply been moved to the appropriate place in the wiki. In those cases, if you click on "DISCUSSION FORUM" in the navigation bar above, you can see all the threads no matter where they are.

If you have a truly original topic, that's the time to start a new thread. Otherwise, there are lively, fun conversations already happening that we'd love for you to join!

(5) Rules on creating a new discussion thread.

(Starting new threads should be a last resort, not your first action.)

  • Make sure it's in the right location. If not, a Moderator may move it without notice.
  • There should only be one thread total for any picture, artwork, video, or fan fiction story.
  • Make the title descriptive. OMG, WOW, I just joined, I love this show, etc. are not new conversations. Please find the thread for the episode, character, or subject you want to discuss.

  • No excess punctuation. one or two ?? or !! is sufficient. If the thread title is all in capital letters or contains excess punctuation, it's probably going to be deleted no matter what it is about.

  • No Spoiler information in the title - if it's a thread with Spoilers, it needs to say so in the title.

  • If you create a thread for the spoiler-free area, it also needs to say so in the title.

  • Spoiler information in the body of the message still needs to be marked with Spoiler Space, except in the spoiler-free area (no spoilers allowed there!)

  • No links to unlicensed merchandise. This is an HBO site, and they own the copyrights.
