| Scjasmine | | Robin McKinley | Sunshine - in this richly detailed post-apocalyptic world, survivors of the Voodoo Wars cling to the normal rhythms of life, in spite of the lingering threat from omnipresent and fearsome supernaturals. Heroine Rae/Sunshine is immediately engaging and sympathetic, but unlike our Sookie, she is deeper, more complex, and more real due to her imperfections… And there are none of the current “handsome vampire” cliches here. Vampire Con is NO Bill Compton: he is inhuman in every sense, pure evil, even downright repulsive. The archenemies are thrown together in a situation that demands their cooperation if they are to survive. In forming this alliance of necessity, the two eventually will…. Ha! No Spoilers!
If you like fast paced books, skip this -but if you like the rich development of character, in the rambling, discursive, stream-of-consciousness “vein” of a Faulkner narrator, plus graceful, poetic, captivating prose, you'll love this remarkable wordsmith. And, IMHO, unlike many other modern fantasy heroines, Sunshine acts like an adult woman with myriad concerns and responsibilities besides sex. It's a breath of fresh air in a genre that sometimes borders on outright gratuitous smut. | LaProv, Sugarboots, dulcet_tones | | The Hollows Series | Kim Harrison | Great story with lots of supernatural elements. Its about a bounty hunter, who is also a witch. Her partners are a Vamp and a Fairy. She falls in love, fights demons, and gets seduced by Vamps. About the first book, Dark Prince:
He came to her in the night, a predator -- strength and power chiseled his features. The seduction was deep and elemental; he affected her soul. His need. His darkness. His terrible haunting loneliness. Her senses aroused, she craved the dangerous force of his body. Burned for him. And he had only touched her with his mind.
She came to him at dawn, his bleakest hour. As the beast raged inside him, threatening to consume him, he vented his centuries-old despair in an anguished cry that filled the waning night. And she answered, a ray of light, piercing his darkness. A beautiful angel. Her compassion, courage, and innocence awakened in him an exquisite longing and tenderness. He knew he must possess her, for only she could tame his savage side and lift the dark shadow from his soul. Apart they were desolate, bereft. Intertwined physically and spiritually, they could heal one another and experience an eternity of nights filled with love.

The books are really in depth and keep you reading. | Felix B. Hellsings |
| Marie Kiraly | Usually I don't like it when other authors try to do a sequel to the classics, but this book is a knockout. It is a continuation of Dracula by Bram Stoker and his told from the perspective of Mina Harker | Pam_in_pastels |
| Richard Matheson | This is more of a scientific approach on vampirism, told from the perspective of the last man alive in the world.

| kyla.peters, dulcet_tones | Note: Not a Vampire Novel but a very good book. | Suzanne Collins | The Hunger Games is a dystopic novel set in the future, where America is one great nation ruled by the cruel and despised Capitol. Each year, the Hunger Games is set, where one male and one female are 'honoured' to compete in the Hunger Games, a reminder of the uneventful rebellion the 13 districts tried to overthrow the Capitol (the 13th District was annihilated). Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist in this novel. When her 12 year-old sister Prim (Primrose Everdeen) is chosen, Katniss volunteers. We then travel to the build-up to the games, her fellow competitor Peeta and then we are thrown into the Games. The end will leave you hanging for the second book, which comes out later this year. This book is the first in the trilogy.

 | Director: Len Wisemen
Stars: Bill Nighy, Kate Beckinsale, Michael Sheen, Sophia Myles, Scott Speedman, Steven Mackintosh | In the Underworld universe, Vampires and Lycans are not supernatural creatures, but the product of a virus. Alexander Corvinus was the only survivor of a plague that wiped out his village. Somehow, the man's body was able to mutate the virus, mold it to his own benefit and become the first true immortal.
Later, he had three sons, one of whom did not inherit his father's immortality and was simply human. The other two were bitten, one by bat and one by wolf, creating the Vampire and Lycan lines. Corvinus' third son also carried the Corvinus Strain, hidden away in his genetic code — an exact duplicate of the original virus, passed along to his human descendants through the centuries. This, according to Singe, is the key to creating a Hybrid.
Since that time, a war has broken out. The Lycans were enslaved by the Vampires, used as slaves to be the guardians of their lairs during the daylight hours, but they revolted during the Middle Ages. Both sides have their own lair and chain of command.
Vampires have Death Dealers, vampire warriors charged to fight and kill the Lycan enemy. There are three Vampire elders. Rules and tradition demand that two be at rest while one is awake; this arrangement calls for each elder to rule for one century followed by two centuries of sleep. | Evans695
