WINKS & NODS IN TRUEBLOOD Pg 3
Only hardcore fans experience the subtle allusions to the Sookie Stackhouse books that Alan Ball sneaks into the TV series. And while not everyone notices, those who do definitely need to share them with other truly dedicated fans. There's nothing quite like getting in on the latest shout-out, so share your insider knowledge on all things True Blood, Alan Ball, and Charlaine Harris below.

For reference: A "wink" or a "nod" is like a product placement... that is strategically aimed to get a chuckle or kudos from the hardcore bookfans. Also appropriate here would be "easter eggs," which are little clues that are strategically placed, usually for foreshadowing or attention to detail.

Wink or nod:

Season 2: Episode 1.
When Sookie looks at her grandmothers room, there is an open Charlaine Harris book. I think it was Poppy Done to Death from the Aurora Teagarden series.

When Sookie tells Bill how upset she is that he kept a secret (of turning Jessica) from her, she asks if he's hiding anything else... he hesitates quite a bit before answering {readers know what else he's hiding}.

Episode 203: Scratches
Eric comments to Sookie that she looks good in red. "That color does well on you." Bookies know that Eric's favorite color is red and he buys her a red jacket to replace the one that gets ruined in Book 4.

In "Scratches," Sarah Newlin consoles Jason by assuring him that he is only human and vampires are seductive, right down to their blood. Book readers know that Jason's blood actually has some seductive qualities of its own.

This has probably been happening the whole series, but i really noticed Sookie's "crazy smile" that happens when she's nervous or hears something unpleasant in someones mind in the books. This happened in "Shake and Fingerpop" when Terry tells Sookie that Sam is leaving town. She makes that tight smile and makes you wonder, why would she be smiling?

In "Shake and Fingerpop", while Bud Kenya, and Mike are examining Miss Jeanette's body, Mike mentions panther citings in a nearby town. Book 4, we find out about the werepanthers in Hotshot.

In "Timebomb" Steve Newlin asks Sookie "Honestly, what do they see in you?" when Bill bursts into FoTS to rescue her after Eric has just offered himself to meet the sun if they'll free her. It's referring to something is Sookie and Jason's family tree the vamps can't resist.

In "I Will Rise Up", when Sookie has the sex dream with Eric after he tricks her into drinking his blood, he says, "This is the beginning." Sounds like it's hinting to their future entanglement. : ]

In episode 212: "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'", when sam goes to see his parents he says 'never say never when there's the internet', refering to bill's vampire data base and his comment in the books that anyone can be found with the internet and some money.

missmaiaann Sookie's Eric fantasy plays on many actual book occurences 1 Oct 1 2009, 12:56 PM EDT by midnight_charm

In Episode 222 "New World in My View" Sookie has a fantasy where she comforts Eric after Godric is gone. Eric is hunched over the bed the same way he is in the books when Eric is in Sookie's bedroom and remembers everything about their time together. In the same scene, she also touches his fangs as she does before she kisses him in the books and turns her head to give Eric her neck as she does when Andre forces a blood enchange at the Pyramid hotel in the books. Did they mix other book references into this one scene?
