I need to get all of the books! Can anyone tell me which one they think is the most "un-putable down one"(I know that's not a word!) Thanks if someone could reply!

"Good Morning!! That makes two of us!! I will have to do some housework this week, and I have dr. appts. too. I have to go to the County Dept. of Health to get a free H1N1 vaccination, & maybe a flu shot too. That's over in Oakland & I really hate going to Oakland!! Parking is horrible! It's on the other side of the city, where all the major hospitals are & the universities. Parking will cost you half the blood in your body, your first-born, your misbegotten soul, $15/hour, and, if you're lucky, only 1 dent in your car. That's at the meter!!! I didn't get the chance to get on the new "Sam" thread yesterday. My cousin is getting divorced & he's having a little bit of a meltdown as he's just beginning to realize what being a single father to 3 very young children is going to entail & his soon-to-be-ex is REALLY playing with his head!! I wanted to go outside yesterday & enjoy our lovely weather with my laptop while my spaghetti sauce cooked - instead, I sat out there on the phone wiith him & listened and did about three hours of therapy. He's one of my favorite cousins though, and I could never refuse him. In fact, we like to tease my daughter that his eldest from his 1st marriage is the first man to have ever slept in her bed!!! He was about 5 months old at the time!! LOL!! They are only about 6 months apart. In fact, my cousin really isn't even blood-related to me! He & his brother are from my aunt's 1st marriage. I didn't know until I was 20 that they weren't my blood relatives, not that it makes any difference to me. OK, I'm headed to the Sam - No Spoilers thread now!! PRAISE HIS LIGHT & HIS GREAT CHEEKS!!"
Excellent, MsB! You're forgiven, of course! See you there! Sorry to hear about your cousin's divorce & ensuing problems, too!!

"ok everyone is to think i'm stupit but i did not no there where books out . i'v got a lot of reading to do. thanks for the info. "
Oh please!! You are NOT stupid!! There are alot of people on this wiki who joined for the show, before they knew about the books! There are 9 novels and some short stories in compilation books (stories collected with several authors contributing)... The first novel is Dead Until Dark, and is the basis for the entire Season 1 of True Blood, and Living Dead in Dallas is the 2nd book, which is the basis for Season 2--but already there are many differences between book and show this season... There is a Sookie Stackhouse novel box-set available, if you have a Barnes & Noble near you, or any other large bookstore chain should have it... :) Actually, the Sookie short stories are going to be compiled into one book, called Touched by Death, and will be released in October, if I remember correctly. Anyway, happy reading!! And welcome to our world of Everything True Blood, All The Time!! The books ARE different from the show, thought the show was based on the books...and maybe some of our fellow Truebies are right to say this: you may want to read the books AFTER the season is over, so you won't be disappointed in either the books or the show. Personally, I started reading the novels 2-3 years before they started the show, so I was just thrilled about the adaptation of one of my fave series into a TV show! I am so glad it's on HBO, too, because basic tv network censors would have ruined this show! The plot "outline" (or "bare bones", as I like to call it) of the book is in the show, but Alan Ball, the creator of the show has really added so much imaginative detail! Enjoy, and I look forward to chatting with you!

I have already read all of the books, (Bravo, Charlaine Harris!) and have seen the first episode 4 times. (Kudos to Allan Ball and his writers!) I'm hoping the series lasts a LONG time, and covers all of the book series, because, believe me, the books kept getting better! I won't spoil things for those who have not read the books, but--(spoiler alert!)--Hurricane Katrina did not happen until much later in the series. This was the only thing I really want to dispute about the show, because after the comment by the the frat guy in the convenience store at the beginning of the first episode, how could they write Katrina into the show in the time it is SUPPOSED to happen? (Spoiler alert over!) -- When I read the books, I had vague pictures of the characters in mind, but I have to admit they got it right, and I don't think anyone could have cast the show better than they did! Anna Paquin IS Sookie! I love the way they treated her telepathy, especially the way the voices faded when Bill came into Merlotte's, to allow for the fact that she could not "hear" him...very close to the way it was written. Steven Moyer also is very close to the way I pictured Bill...HOT!...enough said. The same goes for the other actors/characters they have introduced so far. Charlaine's books deserved to be made into a series more than any books I've ever read, because they are so completely compelling and entertaining, not to mention "down to earth" for a series about supernatural creatures. Of course The books did not start with the strong sexuality that the first episode has, and the erotic & sensual does not need to be so "in your face" but it's HBO, so I guess I should have expected that. I can't wait for Eric's appearance, because he spiced up the books like Spike did in "Buffy"... (Anyone agree? Disagree?)

With Katrina, I suppose they wanted it to be set in relatively present day then in the past, but I'm not sure myself. If they get to that point in the books, it would be interesting to see how they deal with it considering how badly it damages the vampire's income and tourism - not to mention those that died. There is also the matter of the weatherman, if you understand what I'm referring to.
To be honest, the sex scenes involving Jason seemed perfectly logical to me because the show, unlike the books, isn't centered around Sookie's perceptive, but rather just the character herself. This means they can show us what's happening behind the scenes - or in this case behind Sookie's back - without having someone tell her or talk about it directly to allow us to understand what is going on. After all, she wouldn't be the type to think or talk about her brother's sex life - if she knew what it even consisted of anyway.
